FirstBarkJust drove past this place and saw an old man throw a heavy leash at a doberman then corner him in the fenced in area outside and hit the dog. Hoping this wasn’t an employee but allowing anyone on the premises to treat animals like this is disgraceful.

About Springfield Missouri Dog Training Club
SMDTC is dedicated to producing dogs that have been trained and conditioned always to behave in home, in public places, and in the presence of other dogs. The classes we offer encourage willingness and enjoyment from the dog while establishing necessary control. As an AKC licensed club, SMDTC offers classes in obedience, rally, agility, scent work, tricks and tracking as well as competitive events in these sports for those handlers interested in continuing to work with their dogs.

This is a ‘gateway to competition’ class which provides instruction to help handlers use motivational methods in training the following: stationary attention, moving attention (working toward precision heeling), and moving from ‘luring’ to cause a behavior to ‘signaling’ to reward a behavior. This is a challenging class which requires that the handler/dog team complete homework between classes in order to keep up. Prerequisite: Public Manners

This class is for puppies under 4 months of age and meets once a week for six weeks. The class is based on the AKC S.T.A.R. Program, and the instructor is an approved AKC CGC Evaluator. Owners and puppies will earn an AKC STAR Certificate with the successful completion of the class. We emphasize activities that encourage the development of a confident, well cared for and well adjusted puppy. The class deals with house-training, crate training, grooming, proper socialization, and beginning obedience.

This is a ‘traveling’ class which meets in a variety of pre-determined, local settings. This class provides a review and instruction to help teams practice and improve handler and canine skills necessary for courteous maneuvering through public settings. This is a 5 week class, the last week which ends with an opportunity to test for the CGCA title. Prerequisite: CGC Title– A copy of the Evaluator’s form showing the dog passed the CGC OR the AKC Title Certificate must be presented the first day/night of class.

This class helps to prepare dogs to pass the Canine Good Citizen test given the last night of class. The CGC is a certification/title offered by the American Kennel Club. We really enjoy training at SMDTC. The teachers are so knowledgeable and give a lot of one on one teaching. I would highly recommend this Kennel club.

By the way, my fog is 9 and this is our first class! Melissa said we could come learn, and we have! I feel as though the bond between my dog and I has grown and we understand each other better! The trainers listen carefully to any concerns or questions and are very helpful! We're so excited to see what we get to do next!! "Old dogs can't learn new tricks" is a total lie! Just so ya know! You don't have to have a young dog to come to obedience class! Don't think all hope is lost or that you can't do anything with your dog because they're not under 2 years of age! Like I said, my girlie is 9 and we're setting a goal to make it to sent training! It's so much fun! Come check them out! 💙
