We introduced an 8wk old female puppy that will be trained as my Medical Alert Service Dog to our 2 adult Male dogs...it didnt go well. Ww made multiple mistakes in the introduction. Despite my 30 years in Veterinary Medicine (now retired) and training multiple dogs on my own, I knew I had made mistakes in the initial introduction. I had reached out to multiple trainers. 1 trainer that I had contacted prior to our puppy even being born, came over to talk about expectations and evaluate the boys to help us with a few concerns we had before bringing the puppy home. She criticized everything we were doing; what we were feeding our dogs, that they had too many toys, they were shedding (umm totally normal for dogs to blow their coats), and even how we treat them as family and not just dogs. Then she later totally ignored us on follow up messages. Another one told me, after the disaster introduction (and in a 2 min phone call), to immediately rehome my boys. I was DEVASTATED to say the least. Rehoming our furry family members is just never a real option for us. When I reached out in desperation to Kevin and Michelle, they not only responded crazy fast, they were shocked anyone would say that our boys needed to be rehomed without an evaluation. Kevin came to our home SUPER fast. He asked questions but never criticized anything and gave us KIND advice after Evaluating all 3 of our dogs. He quickly showed us that rehoming any of them was not the answer or necessary. I was honestly shocked at how our adult male German Shepherd especially, responded to Kevin almost immediately. He gave us fantastic tools to use that have WORKED. I'm beyond happy to say that by using the tools Kevin gave us, both our adult male dogs are actively playing with our now 15wk old puppy and they are all happy and integrated. Michelle has been a god-send as well and responds immediately to messages and has been so kind and amazing, especially while I was going through major Puppy Blues. We are excited to have Kevin coming back in a couple weeks to see the amazing progress and help us with next steps with training the puppy. I can't recommend Strategic K9's strongly enough. They are amazing!
