I don’t know what just happened!!! I just called the owner and was talking about training for my dog. Everything was going fine and I was ready to sign up for his 10x750 program until I suggested I paid for one individual session first (which he originally offered individuals sessions) before I committed to all 10, just to make sure it was a good fit with my dog and the trainer. (We did a puppy class somewhere else that the Trainer just talked and didn’t train.) That’s when he got upset and went off telling me I couldn’t do that and had to commit to all 10!! He went on to tell me he’s been training for 26 years and I was just mad at my last trainer and told me we had nothing else to talk about.. then he HUNG UP ON ME!!! I was in shock and have never been treated that way.. Especially for just for asking if we can do a session to meet him first. It scares me that a simple question could set him off like that and I wonder how he stays in business. Hopefully he was just having a bad day. I’m just Grateful I found out how he is now before I signed up for a $750 program!!!

There are many styles of training and I have been through and seen most. With this class, I have a (little) dog that will come on command, walk excellent on a leash and is very in tune to me with out treats. I think it is important to have the kind of communication between you and your dog with out the treat factor because there will be times you don't have that to offer. Dogs do not need to socialize with other dogs, they just get into trouble with that, but this class gets them used to other dog's presence and helps them control their urges to be up in the face of other dogs, which in turn will get them bit. Overall, yes it's a bit military style, but it works.

The instructor uses ONLY aversive training. This may turn off some pet owners. I have found that positive reinforcement techniques work better and lead to happier dogs. Also, the class provides no opportunity for socialization. You are told to keep your dog away from all other dogs. I do not recommend Sun Dog Training. My dog and I left Sun Dogs obeneince class with zero new skills. We attended puppy training class at Petsmart and I now have a happy and well behaved dog!

Looked for a trainer for our 6 month old lab. Wasn't sure who to choose but they were advertised at numerous places so I thought that we'd try them. When I called, the owner was pleasant, but I wasn't sure about his experienve. However, the first class rid us of any experience concerns. This guy "tells it like it is" and has so much knowledge to share. I have been to other trainers and I never learned as much as I did in the first session. This guy is good, but you have to he willing to do the homework and follow his directions. If you are willing to do the work, you will get the reward of a good dog. It was amazing to see the dog change in just one class. So excited for next week's class.
