Sundance Retrievers

We started the process of getting our Juno in the late fall of 2024. We needed a psych service dog for our teen and after a ton of searching we found Sundance Retrievers. Juno was born in Nov 2024 and we followed her training and growth through the journal posts and a visit. (We live 9+ hours away so couldn’t visit frequently.) We brought Juno home as a started service dog in Nov 2025. We did end up bringing her back in Feb 2026 for some remediation, but that was due to issues on our end, not Sundance. A month later she was back with us and back on track. Now Juno has finished her task training with our local trainer and my teen and she is a rockstar. She has a wonderful temperament and gets compliments everywhere she goes, from restaurants to amusement parks. We wouldn’t hesitate to get another dog from Sheryl and the Sundance crew, they were excellent to work with and really match the dog to the owners and work.

Finding the right dog for our family was such a huge decision — especially with four busy kids, a crazy real estate schedule, sports, activities, and all the chaos that comes with our little crew. We needed more than “just a dog”… we needed the right fit for our family and lifestyle. From the very beginning, Cheryl and the staff at Sundance Retrievers were absolutely incredible. You can truly tell they don’t just love dogs — they genuinely care about the families those dogs are joining. Cheryl listened to exactly what we were looking for and somehow matched us perfectly with our amazing black lab. She knew what we needed before we probably even did. Because we had our girl go through additional training, we didn’t officially bring her home until she was about 10 months old. But Sundance made us feel connected the entire journey. We even got little visits and vacations with her after picking her out when she was just around a month old, which made the experience so special for our kids. The training and support have been beyond impressive. They don’t just train the dogs — they teach the families how to create a successful, loving relationship and home environment together. Our lab has become such an important part of our family, and honestly, I can’t imagine life without her now. We are so thankful for Cheryl, her guidance, and the entire Sundance team. When we said good bye to the last of our dogs who succumbed to old age we weren't expecting the sadness and feeling of loss we both experienced and we never expected that we would be getting a puppy. But we had not heard of Sundance Retrievers and a breeder/trainer named Sheryl Sundean. A Kennel that breeds calm, gentle Laborador Retrievers for the purpose of companionship seemed too good to be true. But I learned about Sundance and I made the call and I am so very glad that I did. Sheryl was available to answer all my questions and she remained available throughout the entire process. As it turned out, our puppy was just a concept and his prospective parents were not yet even expecting their first litter. But they had exhibited the traits that we had only hoped for and the plan was to breed them. The more we learned the more we became excited to think that we could be bringing a gentle puppy who had basic training, home to become part of our family. The next best part was the excitement when the Dam became pregnant and counting the days to the anticipated birth. The night he was born, she was nervous about the birthing process and one of the trainers sat next to the whelping box for the entire night, to give her reassurance. Our puppy was the only yellow in a litter of 8 healthy black puppies and I got to follow the exciting news on the Sundance Facebook page. We named him Sundance's Sailor. Over his 6 month training period we were able to take him for extended visits or "vacations" three times and each time we could see his progress as he learned more skills. He was calm and gentle and eager to please. Sailor is permanently home with us now and the transition has been seemless. He is exactly what we hoped for. His trainers described him as Kind and Polite as well as gentle and calm and that is exactly what he is. Our friends and neighbors are so impressed with his behavior and we are glad we had the opportunity to take advantage of this program. There is so much more that I could say about the details and training methods and things about the program that make it special but it would take volumes. It is enough to say that we could not be more pleased and we look forward to a wonderful life with a very special companion dog thanks to our association with Sheryl Sundean and Sundance Retievers.

Sundance Retrievers was excellent to work with. They were professional, honest, and clearly passionate about producing high-quality retrievers. The dogs are obviously well cared for, and their knowledge of breeding, temperament, and training really shows. One thing I especially appreciated was that they provided photos of the dog throughout the first three months, which made the whole experience feel much more personal and let us watch the puppy grow along the way. Throughout the process, they were responsive, helpful, and easy to communicate with, which made everything smooth and reassuring. It is clear they take pride in what they do and genuinely care about placing good dogs in the right homes. I would highly recommend Sundance Retrievers to anyone looking for a quality retriever and a breeder who knows what they are doing.

Sundance is an excellent organization that produces exceptional dogs. We got our Zara from then and she is pretty close to the perfect dog. The inquiry, application, and facility are top notch. The owner, Sheryl, is always available to ask any and all questions. And is there for support. We used in-house transportation the 6 hrs to our house and that was great, as well. I can’t recommend Sundance or their dogs enough.
