Tame Dog Training & Boarding

Matt and his staff are awesome! My husband and I scheduled the 17 day program for both of our small dogs. Before training Sophie and Riley were barking at everything that moved, difficult to walk on a leash, had problems potty training and did not listen very well. Wow, what a difference the training made. Matt even helped to train my husband and I too. 😉 Riley and Sophie are so much better behaved. Our home life is much calmer and happier now! I highly recommend Tame Dog Training!

Matt and his team at Tame did an amazing job with our rescue dog Prince. They were extremely knowledgeable and responsive to any questions or concerns we had. We were struggling with our dog Prince with general listening, taking commands, leash walking and appropriate behavior around other dogs and people. Matt and his team were not only able to correct these behaviors seamlessly but gave us the education we needed to continue working with Prince. Sending our dog to Tame was one of our best decisions, he is a much better dog and listens so much better. We are looking forward to sending him to the next tier of training in the future, and will definitely be recommending Tame to anyone who needs training for their dogs.

So let me start by saying, that every “big” decision I make, involves a manila folder and a spreadsheet. We adopted our sweet baby, Luka, at 12 weeks. He is an Engapoo (half cavalier and half poodle). He is, and has always been, such a sweetie, but there were of course things we wanted to correct. At 7 months old, which I realize is still very young, I knew we needed help. Some of our challenges with Luka were biting/mouthing, house training, excessive barking, jumping up, and other ‘dog-like’ habits you would expect a puppy to do. My quick disclaimer is that we recognize that all of these behaviors are normal and they were not Luka’s fault. If anything, the blame was on my husband and I for not working with Luka in the right way to teach him rules/commands that we needed him to understand. I began researching all over the metroplex. I created spreadsheets that measured cost, duration of board and train, facilities, reviews, methods used, cleanliness, hours dogs left alone (i.e. a store in a retail shop where they close at 8 PM and the dogs are left alone until the store reopens in the morning verses being trained in someone’s home, etc). I had it narrowed down to 3 trainers, but after having just one conversation with Matt from Tame Dog Trainer, I knew that is where we wanted Luka to learn. Matt was responsive, he called me the same day I sent my inquiry, and spent over 30 minutes on the phone with me explaining his methods and initial thoughts on Luka’s behavior. Once we had the paperwork in, we dropped Luka off. One of the deciding factors for us choosing Matt was not only the characteristics I mentioned above, but also the additional time he gives his clients to truly understand the training process. Some trainers take in your dog, teach them some commands and then return them to you without much follow up. Matt met with my family 3 times (in-person) throughout the course of Luka’s training. The first time was at drop off, where we sat down and I specially was able to list the behaviors I really needed help with. The second time was three-quarters of the way through Luka’s training, where Matt had the whole family come to his facility where he began our education. After we talked through Luka’s progress, commands/key phrases, and things we, the owners, would need to do to help continue what Matt had started, we were able to work with Luka to practice what we had just learned. The 3rd time we met with Matt, he again, gave our family more information, and then allowed us to have another session with Luka while he was there with us. This way, he made sure we truly understood the commands and the best way to work with Luka moving forward. We still have one more opportunity to meet with Matt, which we hope to take advantage of soon. Matt does not just train your dog. Matt educates the owners, after downloading the information to your dog. He helps create an environment where you can set boundaries and expectations for your dog, which I truly believe your dog wants and years for. I can tell that Luka is SO much happier and SO much more fulfilled than he was prior to working with Matt. We have a daily schedule that we stick to. We still work with Luka a few minutes (every day or every other day) and Luka is THE MOST WELL-BEHAVED dog I have ever had the privilege of owning. Luke knows how to sit, kennel up, down, place, stay, potty and overall just understands boundaries. He is such an incredible part of our family, and always has been; however, now there is order, which to be honest, provides better balance for our family. Matt is professional, caring, extremely knowledgeable, patient and responsive. I never once worried about Luka’s well-being while he was out of our care. We are so grateful to Matt for training Luka. I cannot recommend his services enough. He is simply the BEST, and if you are trying to decide between Matt at Tame Dog Trainer in McKinney, or another facility, I highly recommend you lean toward Matt. Absolutely, incredible experience.

Matt Gamin and his team have forever changed our lives as pet owners. I have an almost 9 yrs pit bull that lost his best friend last year due to old age. He's been pretty good but suffers with anxiety. In January 2020 I rescued a American Bull dog of the streets. His body was a tale of all the aggression he had been through. Anxiety and aggression is scary is a household, especially with children. The boys went to Matt for the 17 day training/boarding option at the end of February--- results were and are exceptional. Well beyond our expectations. Both we and our children are able to command our boys. They no longer fight, even snuggle together some. With >90% of the anxiety gone, our oldest seems happier then he has in years. We did our first in home follow up with Matt yesterday and I think we got an 'A'. He was pleased to see how happy and well behaved the boys are here. We did a quick tune up on not going out the doors of the home unless invited- the boys and the humans did great:) We will be sharing our story and TAME with everyone. He has taught us and our daughters tools that will forever be apart of our home. I honestly thank Matt every day in my head for the warmth now felt in our home. Any dog we bring home down the road will be trained by Matt. I've already sent a client who is every bit as happy as I am. Consider TAME for your puppy, your rescue, your senior, your new environment, your new baby, or whatever it may be. Matt and his team will not let you down.
