The Balanced Dog

We are new to the area and were going on vacation, needing a place for our young Ellie to stay for the week. While searching for boarding we stumbled across the Balanced Dog website. The description of the 2 week board and train sounded like the best solution instead of having Ellie locked in a kennel while we were on vacation. We were very happy with this decision. Joanne sent us mini videos of Ellie's progress during the 2 weeks which was great to see how she was doing. After the 2 weeks Joanne gave an in depth lesson to us upon Ellie's return home for us to learn all the new habits Ellie was taught. Our Ellie is a very energetic lab who was hard to walk on the leash and really didn't listen to us. Now Ellie is a champ on the leash, we can take her anywhere and actually enjoy walking her. She is listening to commands and being respectful, granted we are only a little over a year old and have hiccups Ellie is turning into a well-behaved dog. I Love that Joanne checks on us and we have the opportunity to go the weekend classes to benefit our understanding of Ellie's training. Love that we can call or text Joanne anytime if having a question or problem that we can't figure out ourselves. Love that we have a place for Ellie to go if we need to leave town and can't take her. To date this is the best thing we have done for Ellie and our family. Would recommend Joanne to anyone who wants a better relationship with their dog.

I sent my 6-year-old husky to The Balanced Dog for a 3-week board and train, and the experience was phenomenal! Joanne worked wonders, helping with basic manners, attention-seeking habits like barking, resource guarding, and dog reactivity. The price included all the tools used and lifetime group classes, which is an amazing bonus. This training has truly transformed our dog's behavior and brought so much peace and joy to our family. Highly recommend!

Truly remarkable results. 10/10 Experience, would make the investment over and over again! Our 1 yr old Aussie, Gumbo, did a three week board and train with Joanne. Gumbo was always a sweet and loving pup but some of his behaviors were beginning to negatively impact our daily lives. His intense prey drive, short attention span, and strong will for independence made it very difficult to carry out life as normal. Gumbo was always a flight risk and we always feared when he would take off next. We felt that our last hope to salvage the relationship was to seek professional help. After interviewing with several different board and trains, we ultimately chose Joanne. Joanne has excellent communication skills and is very transparent about expectations and results. One of the most valuable takeaways from Joanne was that mental stimulation can wear out a dog just as quickly as physical activity. Joanne provided tons of feedback, videos, and pictures throughout Gumbo's stay. It was obvious that Joanne's attention to detail and care for the dogs is of high priority. When we got Gumbo back, we were in awe of the results. Gumbo didn't lose any of his personality or spice, but displayed levels of obedience we could never imagine. We have now had him back for a month and he continues to impress us with his control and intelligence. He has shown us on many occasions that he is no longer a flight risk in the presence of prey or other animals. For the first time, I feel like I am truly able to trust my dog and bond with him. I do not fear that Gumbo will run away or not listen to me in high distraction environments. I am not sure any of this would be possible without Joanne's help. We did a two-week board and train with Joanne for our Heeler/Border Collie mix to help teach our smart/stubborn/spoiled pooch Ecko how to better behave on walks and when people come over. He was a pandemic puppy so was not used to visitors for a good chunk of his young life. Joanne took her time to learn all about him (and us), came up with a plan, and updated us over the two-week span as to progress via video and text. It was amazing to see her "figure him out" and be able to correct undesirable behaviors, and then teach us how to continue to reinforce what she had set up to make him a much calmer and happier pup. Our young son can now even take him on walks without issue! A fantastic experience for us, and Ecko!

We adopted Beerus from a shelter when he was 3.5 years old, needless to say, he came with some behavioral and trust issues. Prior to training, any home visitors were met with aggressive barking and lunging. After researching local trainers, we decided on the Balanced Dog with Joanne, and signed Beerus up for the two-week program. We were pleasantly surprised when Joanne made the journey to assess Beerus’ behavior at our home in Laramie. During his stay with Joanne, she sent us videos and messages to show the progress he was making with the training. Upon his return, Joanne spent several hours with us to teach us everything Beerus had learned during his training sessions with her. We now have the tools to help Beerus accept visitors into our home and he happily greets his newly made friends. Thank you, Joanne!!!
