The Dog Behavior Institute

We worked virtually with Ran to build a foundation for a healthy relationship between our dog and toddler, as well as work through some quirks in pup behavior that occurred when other people were around our toddler and dog. Ran was fantastic to work with, and (perhaps most importantly) prioritized training ideas and routines that worked for our family’s circumstances. Despite meeting virtually, Ran also flagged some potential pain/stiffness that might be impacting both quality of life and human interactions. Ran empowered us to be better advocates at vet appointments and to find answers for pain issues.

The Dog Behavior Institute (DBI) is a crucial resource for humans and our canine companions! I found the DBI mission and approach to teaching exceptionally effective. DBI approaches everything they do with an intersectional framework, which creates a equitable, supportive, and inclusive space for everyone to learn. I have taken multiple virtual group courses with both Ran and Stephanie, the owners of DBI, and have also done some one-on-one virtual training with Ran to continue working on specific skills related to consent-based care. I loved the 'learning by doing' teaching approach where, while my dog and I were practicing our skills, Ran analyzed our behavior and then gave feedback in real time. I also appreciated the structure of HW assignments and quick feedback I would receive when sending recorded training videos between virtual training sessions. Because of my work with DBI, I gained so much more knowledge regarding reinforcement, shaping, communication, consent, and compassionate care. As a result, my relationship with my dog is stronger than ever, and we are both a little more confident out in the world :). Leigh Anne & Phoebe
