Working with Dominik at The Dog Behaviorist NYC has completely changed both my life and my dog’s life. I first came across Dominik online, and it was his reviews that ultimately led me to reach out. My miniature dachshund, Duckie, had become extremely reactive to other dogs after being attacked at a dog park. It got to the point where we couldn’t take her on walks or even bring her through our building’s lobby without serious stress. From the beginning, Dominik’s approach was both firm and compassionate. He made it clear that real progress would depend on my girlfriend and me stepping up to give Duckie the confidence and leadership she needed. It is very important to be open to Dominik’s suggestions to have the best results. After just two sessions out of a six-session program, we saw a dramatic change. We were able to walk her outside, pass other dogs, and move through our building with ease. Most importantly, Duckie became visibly more relaxed and happy. As of our final session yesterday, I can confidently say that the results exceeded anything I could have imagined. Dominik gave us tools, structure, and understanding—and it worked. I cannot recommend him highly enough to anyone struggling with a reactive or anxious dog. It truly doesn’t have to be that way, and Dominik is the person who can make the difference.

I had a really tough time training my dog before Dominik came into the picture. I adopted an anxious dachshund at 7 months old, and it was clear he had spent most of his early life confined to a playpen. Transitioning from that environment to life in New York City was overwhelming for him—and honestly, for me too. A coworker recommended Dominik, and I’m so grateful they did. From our first session, he tailored the training to exactly what my dog needed. We worked on several challenges, and he gave me practical, thoughtful advice that made a real difference. Thanks to our work together, I can now leave my dog alone without him crying, and our walks are far less frustrating—he’s manageable on the leash. What I appreciated most is that Dominik doesn’t just train your dog—he teaches you how to train your dog. That’s truly invaluable. My dog is still naturally anxious, but with Dominik’s help, he’s grown in confidence.

Dominik knows and understands dogs really well, but his program lacked structure and organization. While we learned a few helpful tips, each session felt like our first and the program never truly evolved. After our initial session, he had travels, which left a 3 week window between Session #1 and Session #2. We then had another session that he needed to reschedule, but never cared to make up for it. All in all, he is knowledgable, but the program was fragmented and lacked what us (and our dog) needed to drive any real impact.

Dominik helped us a great deal with our anxious dog. He addressed the entire spectrum, starting with working on our communication skills with our dog, establishing the appropriate relationship with our dog, and teaching our dog what we want from him in a way that allows him to succeed. We were anxious to begin any behavioral training because we didn't want to "punish" our dog, but as it turns out our dog adored Dominik and responded enthusiastically anytime Dominik had the leash. We have learned a great deal and most importantly our dog is happier, calmer, and we can communicate much more clearly with him.
