High praise for Dog Wizard (North Ridgeville)! I came to the Dog Wizard because of a friend who had great success with the ‘Board & Train” package for their new dog. My dog is an English Staffordshire/Pit mix, a rescue, very smart but very reactive. Walks were a nightmare because of his pulling, especially when another dog was in his sight. I had watched video after video from trainers on Youtube and Instagram and tried to implement their recommendations but nothing was working. After the assessment session with Kurtis (Owner/head trainer) and Adam, I knew we were in good hands. I chose the 5-day training session because I wanted to learn the skills needed to properly implement what they would be teaching my dog plus I had the time and motivation to do the work from home. Adam became our official trainer and I couldn’t have been more pleased when I walked into our first lesson and saw a lesson plan breakdown of what we would be working on As a former teacher, I loved seeing the layout of skills and timeline of implementation. There was always clear communication in regards to what would happen during the sessions that followed. When it was time for our second lesson, we went on a walk with a transitional lead and I wanted to cry - no pulling and Remington was walking right next to us the whole time! Every session, Adam listened to our progress and my standing concerns and did his best to address all situations and answer questions. If he didn’t have the answer, which was rare, he immediately asked Kurtis, which I feel is a trait of a respectable teacher and demonstrates his eagerness to act in the best interest of the clients. Furthermore, I always learned something during our lessons. Adam was sure to pace the skills properly and be available via text whenever a question or challenge arose, which happened on several occasions. We were able to cover SO much ground and made so much progress during our 5 sessions, I’m still in shock. Now I do not stress out before every walk, have tools at my disposal to best help my dog thrive in every situation, have been able to take him to public places and he ‘chills out’ as well as participate in a safe, dog group environment which I wasn’t sure would ever happen! Kurtis and Adam have definitely made us feel like we are not just profits walking the door, but family, which they will tell you time and time again is an overarching theme of their business and I believe it.
