The Educated Pet was founded in San Diego in 1998 to meet the needs of conscientious pet owners who are faced with uncertainty about how to forge a life-long relationship with their furry friends or how to deal with problems that threaten that relationship. The founder, Carol Harris, has been a devoted, life-long, dog and cat owner and has over thirty years of experience in animal training and behavior. Carol holds a certification in Applied Animal Behavior from the University of Washington and has studied under one of the foremost animal behaviorists, James Ha, CAAB, Ph. D. Carol’s husband and partner, Michael Harris, holds multiple degrees in the physical and life sciences and has recently completed the certification for Applied Animal...

I have known both owners of this business for more than a decade. The knowledge that they possess, helping to guide pet owners in regards to behavior and training is top notch. Problems are not always a quick fix especially with our pets. Carol and Mike take careful calculated considerations into account when working with their clients. As a veterinary professional I have had Carol and Mike come and speak with my veterinary staff so they could learn tools to help set up them up for success with the many fearful and anxiety ridden pets we treat daily. Their approach is positive and grounded in doing the work to have a confident and loving pet family member. The Educated Pet does far more than just training and behavior modification. They are versed on many other dog programs and certifications.
