The Fine Canine Dog Training & Boarding

I have been taking classes with Monica and Fine Canine Dog Training. I can't even begin to express my gratitude. Monica is hands down the best trainer I have ever met. She is not only the best in the area but I would argue she is one of top trainers in the country. I travel 35 minutes every week just to be in her class. Monica has been incredible helping me train my dog Louie. He is certified through the American Kennel Club as a Canine Good Citizen, and intermediate level certification for tricks. He is on his way to becoming a working therapy dog. More importantly Louie, is incredible with my family. I have two young kids so I take dog training very serious. Monica taught me all the skills I would need to know in order to socialize Louie with other dogs and my family. He is amazing and I owe much of this to Monica. I have met with other trainers in the past without great results. Monica gets results, and she truly cares about the work she is doing. The classes are fun, organized, and skill oriented. I highly recommend Monica for classes, board and train, or private lessons. If you use her services you will have an incredible dog and amazing new member of your family for years.

We have used Fine Canine for individual training of our Bernese Mountain Dog puppy. After the first session, the change was amazing! His nipping and general obedience improved immediately. We also enrolled him into the six week puppy class, despite it being 30 miles from home. It has been well worth it. We are frequently complimented on how well behaved he is for such a young dog. We plan to take him through the entire range of courses Fine Canine provides, through therapy dog training. We also intend to board him with Fine Canine. We feel lucky to have found Monica and Fine Canine.

I cannot say enough about Fine Canine...we could not have been happier with the results of the 10-day program for our Weimaraner. The breed is known for separation anxiety and our puppy was no exception. When we brought her to Fine Canine at 3 months old, she couldn’t be left in her crate without peeing everywhere no matter the amount of time she was left. On top of that, she would chew through anything left in the crate and the walls outside of the crate. After we got her back from training, she freely walked into the crate even while we were home. When we do leave, she sleeps in her crate, accident free! In addition to the phenomenal crate training, our puppy listens to commands, returns when we call her and waits in her bed until allowed to leave - astonishing! I would recommend Fine Canine to anyone...you will not be disappointed!

It's interesting to see so many positive reviews. I'm glad those owners and puppies had a good experience. We definitely did not. Our 12 week old puppy was enrolled in the 10 day program. We wanted to focus on crate training and potty training. Monica returned the dog and within 10 minutes our dog walked right over to the rug and peed on it. Monica aggressively grabbed him by the neck and shook him. She stated that was her training philosophy. Our vet and basically every textbook disagrees with that kind of treatment. In terms of crate training, she recommended that our puppy be placed in an empty crate and placed on the try without any type of blanket, pee pad, music, or other comfort. Additionally she wanted it completely dark. We thought we would follow her instructions. It was a disaster. He cried and barked for hours. Still, we left him in his crate. In the morning we found that he had soiled himself and had to be cleaned. This happened for the first 3 days. When we discussed with our vet and other experienced dog owners, they were shocked by the treatment. They explained that the crate should be a comfortable safe place for your dog. In terms of other obedience, we did not notice any consistency in his ability to sit, stay, etc... In fact, when she tried to demonstrate those things with us, our puppy would often not follow directions. Overall, I'm not sure what she did except for maybe traumatize him. 2 weeks later, he is now back to the sweet puppy we know him to be. She offered to come give us a free lesson. My mom is terrified to have her come back. The main purpose of this review is to make clear that you should know what type of training your dog will be receiving. Monica believes in negative reinforcement and punishment, which is different than what most experts teach. We are not comfortable with that method so please clarify with her about how she'll treat your dog. And honestly, it was not effective.
