The Naughty Dog Training

Becky is so pleasant, knowledgeable and creative with her training approach. Me and my deaf dog Millie had an absolute blast learning from Naughty Dog Training and accommodations were made multiple times in every class to help Millie learn new skills. We often had to collaborate and translate verbal commands into hand signals, which is harder than it seems! Millie worked hard and earned her AKC Novice Trick Dog title. Thank you, Becky! Becky has been our dog trainer for almost seven years. Our vet recommended her to us after our 10-week-old puppy was uninvited to her puppy class. Some training establishments let the dogs run about chaotically and that was not the kind of environment that worked well for our shy, nervous, and protective pup. Becky helped us to understand that our dog was never going to be a lab or a golden retriever, and she might not be the kind of dog that loves or welcomes people, but that we could work with her to make sure she was safe, others were safe, and that our dog was mentally stimulated and well behaved. We did private lessons, as that was what worked best for our dog. She taught us all the basic commands like sit, down, stay, off, leave-it, settle, etc. but also worked with us on more complicated issues like resource guarding and muzzle training. Our dog is now seven years old, and I can say, without a doubt that she is the best behaved and well-trained dog that I have ever had. She is still not a fan of people outside of her family, but we are able to navigate vet visits, holiday gatherings, and passing other dogs and strangers on walks because Becky taught us and our dog commands so well. I can ask her to stay and leave it when another person or dog walks by and she listens. She is basket muzzle trained. I can put a muzzle on her for vet visits or social gatherings at our home and she is not stressed nor upset by wearing a muzzle as she has learned to associate it with positive rewards like praise and treats. We reached out to Becky again, about a month ago, when we decided to bring home a puppy. We were worried about how our dog would react to a new puppy as she is generally not a fan of other dogs. Becky invited us and our dog into her new training facility prior to the pup's arrival for a follow-up lesson that was part preparing our dog for a puppy and part preparing us for a puppy. She went over the ins and outs of how to travel home with the new puppy, what toys and chews would be safest and most enjoyable for the puppy, how to begin crate training and potty training, and how to safely introduce the new puppy to our dog. We went into the experience of bringing home the new puppy feeling informed, prepared, and confident. We have utilized all of the information provided and had a flawless introduction between the dogs. It helped tremendously that our older dog was already so well trained by Becky. The puppy is doing great with crate training, housebreaking, and basic commands like off, sit, and drop it. He is a mixed breed but is half the same breed as our other dog and is beginning to show similar resource guarding and stranger danger that can be common with that breed. The difference this time around, from when our now seven-year-old dog was a puppy, is that we don't feel panicked because we know we can work with Becky to get these behaviors under control. I look forward to our continued work with Becky and I simply can't say enough about how grateful we are for her guidance. As an aside, Becky is simply a wonderful person to be around. She isn't going to make you feel bad if you've spoiled your dog or they are horribly behaved. She's just going to get to work collaborating with you about how to fix it. She is insightful, educated, experienced, and has hilarious dog and kid stories to share. Simply put, Becky is an excellent dog trainer and an excellent human being, and I would highly recommend her for all of your dog training needs, including the more challenging ones.
