The Wayward Canine

Our German Shepherd/Siberian Husky rescue, Atreus, has undergone such a positive transformation thanks to The Wayward Canine. A previous trainer helped him learn basic commands, manage some dog reactivity, and end his overstimulation biting. After completing our training sessions, I enrolled Atreus in their day camp. As my dog loves everyone, when Atreus was becoming reserved to greet facility handlers when being dropped off, this was concerning to me. I began to look for another place. I felt Atreus needed an environment that was positive, fun, motivating, yet with structure to suit his personality. From the moment we met Josh, Atreus immediately warmed up to him—a stark contrast to his previous hesitation with the other facility we used. Josh provided insights that deeply resonated with my husband and I. Now when I drop Atreus off at day camp, his happy tail wag speaks volumes. This is a relief compared to his past behavior of wanting to leave immediately. After just a few months, Atreus’ behavior has improved significantly. Even our family members are astonished with his continued improvement because they remember how out of control he was when we first adopted him. The team at The Wayward Canine has been incredibly patient and supportive, always take the time to answer my questions, and kindly address my concerns (thank you Krysten for everything when I met you on day one!). As an anxious dog mom, it’s such a relief to know Atreus is in good hands in a place that truly understands and cares for him. Knowing he gets to socialize and play with other dogs in a supervised and safe environment makes me so happy too. I also love seeing him featured on the Instagram stories/reels, which gives me peace of mind while I’m at work. Wayward canine has been a tremendous help in training both our dogs, Luna & Tater Tot. Tater came to Wayward canine with some confidence issues- making his response to other dogs unpredictable at times. With training, tater has become more comfortable and is able to socialize with other dogs in a controlled setting. The patience of the staff with him & all his quirks is very much appreciated. We have learned so much from the private 1:1 sessions as well. Luna is 5 years old and has anxiety & confidence issues. With some training, Luna is now approved for daycare. She adores going to daycare at wayward canine. It is a great peace of mind that the daycare pack needs approval prior to attending and dogs are matched based on demeanor. Thank you so much!
