What people have asked about this business.
Can you help my dog that barks and lunges at other dogs on walks?
Absolutely! Reactive behavior on walks is one of the most common issues we address at our Carrollton Dog Training location. Dogs that bark, lunge, or pull toward other dogs aren't being "bad"—they're often confused, overstimulated, or fearful. Our proven Dog Training system teaches your dog to stay calm and focused on you instead of reacting to every passing dog or distraction. We use our Dog Training techniques to redirect attention, build impulse control, and create reliable obedience even in triggering situations. Most Carrollton families see dramatic improvement within just one week of starting our Dog Training program, transforming embarrassing walks into peaceful, enjoyable outings you'll actually look forward to!

Why haven't treats worked for training my Carrollton dog?
Many Carrollton families come to us after treats failed because treat-based Dog Training creates dependency—your dog only listens when food is present! Our Dog Training philosophy uses a balanced approach that doesn't rely on endless treats or bribing. Instead, our Dog Training system teaches attention through a conditioned response using proper communication techniques. This means your dog learns to obey reliably in ALL situations—not just when you have treats in your pocket. Our Carrollton Dog Training creates dogs that respond because they understand and respect the communication, producing more reliable real-world results. With over 32,000 dogs trained nationwide, our Dog Training methods have proven far more effective than treat-only approaches!

What happens during the take-home handoff after board and train?
The handoff session is a critical part of our Carrollton Dog Training board and train program! When your dog completes their 2-4 week intensive Dog Training bootcamp, we conduct a comprehensive 2-3 hour handoff session with a structured 20+ step process. During this Dog Training transfer, we teach you every command your dog learned, demonstrate the techniques step-by-step, and have every family member practice until they're confident. Our Dog Training handoff covers everything from "come" and "sit" to heel position, place-stays, loose-leash walking, door manners, and kenneling. We break each Dog Training skill into small repetitions so you leave fully prepared. This thorough owner training is why our Carrollton Dog Training delivers lasting results!

Can my whole family participate in the Carrollton training program?
Yes! We strongly encourage the whole family to be involved in our Carrollton Dog Training program because consistency is key to lasting results. Dogs need to respect and respond to every family member, not just one person. Our Dog Training approach includes dedicated time to train each family member on the commands, techniques, and leadership skills needed to maintain your dog's new behaviors. During our Dog Training handoff sessions, we work with adults, teens, and even children (when appropriate) to ensure everyone can confidently handle the dog. Our Carrollton Dog Training team believes that effective Dog Training means empowering your entire household so your dog listens to everyone, every time!

Is it too late to train my older dog in Carrollton?
It's never too late! Our Carrollton Dog Training program successfully works with dogs of all ages, from 4-month-old puppies to senior dogs. We've trained 134 different breeds at every life stage with a 99.3% success rate. While puppies learn quickly, older dogs can absolutely transform with proper Dog Training—we've worked with 13-year-old dogs still pulling on leashes, 7-year-old dogs with aggression issues, and seniors who never received formal Dog Training. Our proven Dog Training methods adapt to your dog's age, physical abilities, and learning pace. Many Carrollton families are amazed at how quickly their older dogs respond to our Dog Training system. Age is just a number—every dog deserves the chance to become their best self through professional Dog Training!

How is your training different from other Carrollton dog trainers?
Three major differences set us apart: First, we have documented, proven systems that every trainer follows—you're not getting someone's experimental approach. Second, we train your dog FOR you first during board & train, then extensively train YOU during handoff—most trainers make you do all the work and hope it sticks. Third, we offer lifetime support with free group classes twice weekly and phone support forever—most trainers disappear after they cash your check. We're also America's highest-rated dog training company with more five-star reviews than any competitor. We're not a solo trainer who might move or quit—we're an established company with systems, accountability, and staying power. When you choose Tip Top K9, you're choosing proven results, not empty promises.

Can you help with dogs that run away or don't come when called?
Yes! Poor recall (not coming when called) is dangerous and incredibly frustrating for Carrollton owners. Dogs that bolt out the front door, run away at the park, or ignore you when called put themselves at risk of getting lost, hit by cars, or getting into fights. Our training creates bombproof recall using the e-collar. Your dog will learn that "come" means come NOW, not "come when you feel like it." We practice recall around major distractions—other dogs, wildlife, people—until it's completely reliable. After training, you'll have the confidence to let your dog enjoy off-leash freedom knowing they'll return immediately when called. This literally saves lives!

How old does my puppy need to be to start training?
We start training puppies at 4 months old and up. This is the ideal time because puppies are old enough to focus and learn, but young enough that we can prevent bad habits from forming. If your puppy is younger than 4 months, we recommend waiting until they reach that age. Starting too early can be overwhelming for very young puppies. However, there's no upper age limit—we've successfully trained senior dogs over 10 years old! Whether your Carrollton dog is a young puppy or a seasoned adult, we can help. The old saying "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" is absolutely false. It's never too late to start!

What if my dog doesn't like the trainer or gets stressed during board & train?
This rarely happens, but we take it seriously if it does. Our trainers are experienced at reading dog body language and building trust quickly. Most dogs adjust within 24-48 hours and actually LOVE their training experience—many clients say their dogs are excited to see the trainer again at pickup! If your dog is genuinely stressed or not responding well, we'll contact you immediately to discuss options. We might switch trainers, adjust the approach, or in rare cases, recommend a different training solution. Your dog's wellbeing is our top priority. We want training to be a positive, confidence-building experience, not a stressful one..

We have a 99.3% success rate—meaning 99.3% of dogs that go through our program achieve reliable obedience. This is why we can offer a money-back guarantee. The 0.7% that don't succeed are usually extreme cases with severe neurological issues or dogs that are genuinely dangerous and need specialized behavioral veterinary care beyond training. With over 32,000 dogs trained since 2010 and 14,000+ five-star Google reviews, we have the proven track record to back up our claims. We've trained dogs that multiple other Carrolltontrainers gave up on. If your dog is trainable (and 99.3% are!), we'll get results. That's not just a promise—it's a guarantee!

Yes! We understand that professional dog training is an investment, and we want to make it accessible for Carrollton families. We offer payment plan options for our programs—you don't have to pay everything upfront. During your $1 first lesson, we'll discuss pricing and payment options that fit your budget. Many clients find that the cost of training is far less than the cost of replacing destroyed furniture, vet bills from dog fights, or potential liability from an aggressive dog. When you consider that you get lifetime group classes and lifetime support, our training is actually one of the most affordable long-term solutions available. Call us at 866-598-3853 to discuss your specific situation and payment options.

What happens if my dog gets sick or injured during board & train?
Your dog's health and safety are our absolute top priority. If your dog shows any signs of illness or injury during board & train, we'll contact you immediately and take them to a veterinarian if needed. We'll cover emergency veterinary care and keep you informed every step of the way. In most cases, minor issues like an upset stomach or small scrape are handled quickly. If your dog needs extended veterinary care, we'll pause training until they're fully recovered, then resume where we left off. We've trained over 32,000 dogs, and serious incidents are extremely rare because our trainers are vigilant about safety. Your dog is treated like family while in our care.

Absolutely! Excessive barking is one of the most common complaints we hear from Carrollton clients, especially in neighborhoods with close neighbors. Dogs bark for many reasons—boredom, anxiety, territorial behavior, attention-seeking, or lack of training. Our training addresses the root cause, not just the symptom. We teach the "quiet" command so you can stop barking on command, but more importantly, we give your dog structure and leadership, which eliminates anxiety-based barking. The "place" command is especially effective—it teaches your dog to settle calmly instead of alerting to every sound. Many clients tell us their neighbors thank them after training because the constant barking finally stops!

Will my dog still love me after being trained with an e-collar?
Absolutely, yes! This is one of the most common concerns we hear, and we completely understand it. Here's the truth: e-collar training actually IMPROVES your relationship with your dog because it creates clear communication and reduces frustration on both sides. Your dog will love you MORE after training because they understand what you want and can succeed at pleasing you. Dogs thrive on structure and clear expectations—it makes them feel secure and confident. Our clients consistently report that after training, their dogs are happier, more relaxed, and more bonded to their families. The e-collar is just a communication tool—it doesn't damage your relationship any more than a leash or collar does.

Your dog will master all the essential commands: Come (reliable recall even with distractions), Sit (immediate response), Down (lie down and stay), Place (go to a designated spot and remain there calmly), Heel (walk beside you without pulling), Off (stop jumping, get off furniture, leave things alone), and Quiet (stop barking on command). These aren't just tricks—they're practical life skills that solve real problems. Your dog will perform these commands off-leash and around distractions like other dogs, people, squirrels, and busy Carrollton environments. We also teach impulse control, door manners, and calm greetings. By the end of training, you'll have a dog that's genuinely pleasant to live with!

Do you work with rescue dogs or dogs with unknown backgrounds?
Yes! We work with rescue dogs all the time in Carrollton, and we love helping them become confident, well-adjusted family members. Many rescue dogs come with baggage—fear, anxiety, previous trauma, or learned bad habits from their past. The beauty of our training is that it gives rescue dogs structure, clarity, and confidence, which helps them overcome their past and thrive in their new home. We don't need to know your dog's history to train them effectively. We assess where they are NOW and build from there. Many of our most dramatic success stories involve rescue dogs that other trainers said were "too damaged" or "beyond help." Give your rescue the fresh start they deserve!

Can you help if my dog is destructive when left alone?
Yes! Destructive behavior when left alone is extremely common and usually stems from separation anxiety, boredom, lack of exercise, or lack of structure. Our training addresses all of these root causes. The "place" command teaches your dog to settle calmly in a designated spot, which reduces anxiety. Our system also establishes you as the leader, which helps your dog feel secure when you're gone—they trust you'll return. During board & train, your dog will learn impulse control and how to be calm and relaxed. Many Carrollton clients report that after training, their dogs no longer destroy furniture, chew shoes, or tear up blinds when left alone. We'll also give you specific strategies for managing your dog's environment and energy levels to prevent destructive behavior!

What's the difference between your training and group classes at pet stores?
Huge difference! Pet store group classes focus on teaching YOU how to train your dog using treats and hope your dog listens when you get home. The problem? Most dogs only obey in that quiet classroom setting and fall apart around real distractions. Our approach is completely different: WE train your dog first during board & train, creating reliable, off-leash obedience that works anywhere. Then we teach YOU how to maintain it during the handoff. You're not left figuring it out on your own with a half-trained dog. Plus, our lifetime group classes are included FREE and focus on maintaining skills and socialization—not starting from scratch every week. You get professional results, not just homework assignments!
Community answer · Tip Top K9 Dog Training Carrollton · 2025-10-21
How do I maintain my dog's training after the program ends?
This is one of the most important questions! Training maintenance is simple but requires consistency. During your 2-3 hour handoff session, we'll train YOU extensively until you're confident handling your dog. We'll break down every command step-by-step and won't let you leave until you can do it correctly. After that, you'll have FREE lifetime group classes (held twice weekly) where you can practice with your dog around distractions and get coaching from trainers. You also get lifetime phone support—if you hit a rough patch or have questions months or years later, just call us! Most clients find that once their dog is trained, maintaining the behaviors takes just a few minutes daily of reinforcement. The training becomes part of your lifestyle, not a chore.

I am interested in board and training for my 2 1/2 year old rat terrier. When she is boarded at the vet the vet says the dog will not eat so I had to come get the dog. She will always eat when I am present. How will you handle that?
Thank you for reaching out, Rick. We meet everyone and their pets before beginning any training. Our locations don’t offer everything to everyone but we first meet with you and your dog for 20-30 minutes and find out where your little buddy currently is training-wise, where you would like them to be, and how much time you do or do not have for training. Then we will either recommend or customize a package based on your needs and your budget. That discussion will determine the steps taken to ensure your dog gets what is needed. In April of 2025, my two small pups went to Tip Top K9’s Dog Training in Carrollton. I have a chihuahua and a wired haired mix. The consultation seemed good and the reviews all looked positive. Even as I write this, there doesn’t seem to be a single Google review less than 5 stars. Well, let this be the first. And had I looked further at Reddit/Facebook, I would have seen the less than stellar feedback on this company. I was told during the consultation (with Mark) that training small dogs, particularly chihuahuas, can be difficult as they’re very stubborn. The trainer told me that if the pups went to boot camp and it became apparent that one or both were not susceptible to learning, they’d call me and I could pick them up and we’d try a different approach. So I signed both pups up and off they went to boot camp the very next day. Total cost for both pups for boarding/bootcamp and “lifetime training” = $5,000. The next 11 days were incredibly stressful for me as I felt like I had to pester Mark for updates. The texts I did receive stated that my chihuahua had bitten several employees. I immediately knew this was not working out; unless he’s cornered or feels threatened, he’d much rather run away than bite someone! I really just wanted Mark to say it’s not a good fit and we could try something else, but that never came. Mark just stated several times that “Bodie (the chihuahua) is going to need a lot of extra work when he gets home with me.” I patiently waited for the “Friday Update” videos, but they didn’t come until Sunday. When I finally got the videos, my heart broke. My babies had their tails between their legs and looked scared and uneasy. At this point I just wanted the whole thing to be over with. I was polite and kind when communicating with Mark. The last thing I wanted was for my distress to cause an issue with the pups still in their care. But the worst part of this whole ordeal was when Mark delivered the pups back to me. My chubby little 11 pound chihuahua came back 3 pounds lighter. In 11 days he lost 3 pounds! And neither pup was happy or well-adjusted to what they supposedly learned at bootcamp. During the return home training for me, Mark couldn’t get neither pup to successfully demonstrate commands without ALSO using a leash. So picture this: We’re in my backyard, dogs have their e-collars on AND they’re on a leash. Mark turns the e-collar on high enough that the dog yelps, he pulls on the leash, and then the dog finally comes. I was LIVID. And then there’s the moment I knew I had been scammed - Mark went to work with the chihuahua, but got the remotes mixed up and ended up shocking the wrong dog! Here we are working with one dog, and the other dog starts yelping because he’s being shocked while not even being commanded!!!! After a disastrous series of events, I had had enough and ended the visit. I told Mark to leave - knowing I would NEVER let him touch my pups again. $5000 for bootcamp training that never should have progressed past the first time my dog felt threatened enough to bite a trainer…. They gladly took my money and never offered me even a partial refund, even when they state they have “guaranteed results.”

Mark, Shanti, and their team really go above and beyond when it comes to dogs and training! My dog Dexter did the 2 week boot camp option and I can definitely say Dexter is a more well behaved, balanced, and all around more mature. Dexter is 2, and an Aussie, he has always been very loving, but he was never listening to commands, for the most part, he would just do what Dexter wanted. Now we can go for long walks and not worry about the reactivity when other dogs were around. Dexter and I are both having a better life and better bonding.

This was one of the best things I could’ve done for my dog. We sent my Staffweiler (Molly) to doggy boot camp and she came back a different dog. Mark was super transparent and helped us every step of the way. The at home training sessions were super helpful and informational. And the sessions for life are something that really excites me. I can’t wait to continue training with Tip Top K9.

Tip Top K9 has been a GAME CHANGER to help train my rescue bulldog. We’ve had the pleasure of working with trainer Mark, not only has he taught us simple but effective training techniques during our session, he also helps with how to carryover the training at home. Mark has been so helpful and supportive in helping teach our dog not only basic obedience but skills needed to successfully perform and behave in public settings, around other dogs, and on the leash. His training techniques are straightforward and effective and we couldn’t be happier with the progress our rescue pup has made thanks to his help.
