Hi Jill, When I read a review like the one you left I really have to wonder if you have ever been to our facility to train at all. Everyone working with us knows immediately that any dog being trained here is showered with love and treats for the right behaviors. From day one, you are being trained how to properly reward your dog, more importantly how to properly LOVE on your dog for the purpose of rewarding. This fact is substantiated across the board in our reviews. For clarity, we do NOT punish dogs! With an unruly dog, every action we take is to attempt to get the dog to divert its focus from the distraction causing the reactivity back to the handler (owner). When a dog is showing reactivity, it is in a “heightened state of mind” and will never listen to verbal commands. Words will not cause the dog to stop being ‘aggressive’. Some trainers, including very popular trainers like Ceasar Milan, will poke the dog or give a mild heel kick to break that heightened state of mind. We use a leash "pop" to achieve the same result. When we can redirect the dogs attention to the owner, the dog will be lavished with treats and love. We have effectively stopped the barking, the lunging and overall rude behavior being displayed and shown the dog that it will be rewarded for ignoring the distraction and focusing on its handler. With that said, it is fairly obvious that you have never been here to witness how we work. That leaves me with only two conclusions that make any sense. One, you are completely against balanced training and therefore attempting to put a dent into our reputation. Or two (the answer that I am more inclined to believe), you know someone that had come to us for training. That person had an EXTREMELY misbehaving dog and loved their dog above EVERYTHING else and could not fathom, from the bottom of his/her heart, giving any kind of correction for obscene and possibly very dangerous behavior and are venting on their behalf. We truly, from the bottom of our hearts, hope that you find a trainer that aligns with your interpretation of training and you can fix your problem(s).
