Truckee Meadows Dog Training Club

I am writing this review to warn other handlers—particularly those with large working/guardian breeds or minority owners—about the severe bias and administrative dishonesty at Truckee Meadows Dog Training Club. I recently enrolled my young, heavily socialized Cane Corso puppy, Uhtred, in their Beginner 101 class. During the first class, while we were seated, he experienced a single, isolated moment of barrier reactivity when a demo dog was brought out. He lunged from a sit, unexpectedly pulling me out of my chair. I immediately regained control and returned to my seat. The instructor on the floor, Deborah, was the definition of an encouraging professional. She handled the situation beautifully, comforted me, and explicitly noted that she saw I was actively learning and successfully applying a "watch" command to redirect his attention. She assured me she had zero safety concerns or ill feelings, and even spent 10 minutes after class teaching us a new "touch" command and setting a collaborative plan to acclimate our dogs next week. We finished the entire remainder of the class safely and successfully alongside the other dogs. In fact, immediately following the single incident, I sat back in my seat and Deborah kept Bert sitting directly across from me for the rest of the time. The class and discussions continued seamlessly with Uhtred and Bert facing one another with absolutely zero additional issues. My complete blindside came days later when I received a cold dismissal email from the Training Director, Shari Sanger. The administration completely fabricated the events to cover their liability—falsely claiming the incident happened "twice," exaggerating that I had "zero control," and dramatically speculating that a "serious dog fight" would have occurred. They summarily expelled us and recommended a behavioral rehabilitation center for a puppy with a spotless record and zero bite history. The massive disconnect between an excellent, objective trainer on the floor and an administration that panics and writes a false narrative the moment they read the words "Cane Corso" is unacceptable. This facility operates out of systemic breed stigma and administrative bias rather than an objective assessment of dog behavior. I explicitly chose this AKC club because I planned to pursue Uhtred's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and support dog certifications here. Instead, my training goals have been entirely derailed by an administration that resorts to panic rather than providing actual training support If you own a powerful working breed or want an inclusive, professional environment that actually understands real training mechanics, take your money elsewhere. We will be investing our time into high-level professionals who actually understand working dogs.
