Uncle Mattys Dog Training

4 months ago we hired Uncle Matty to help us with our 2 puppies. We had an 8 month old Bernadoodle and a 6 month old German Shepard/Lab mix. Both extremely high energy and and my Bernadoodle high anxiety. Although I have never paid for training for any of our other dogs, I decided to do so after realizing that having 2 high energy puppies at the same time was too much for us to handle. Our Bernadoodle named Ambrosius, would not listen and run way, she hated my husband, chewed stuff up and the worst of it all ate poop!! Our Shepard/lab mix named Kenai, was good at sticking around, but he aggressively jumped. He jumps so high and fast that he split my daughters chin open, and he would pull her down while trying walk him. We opted for the leash training for both of our dogs. Uncle Matty came in and immediately started getting our dogs under control. It was like magic. He then trained us on how to control our dogs while on a leash. We have had tremendous success. We take our dogs camping and to sleep overs at family members houses. We would have never been able to do that before. Ambrosius is still anxious and stubborn, but she responds perfectly on the leash. Kenai listens wells and walks calmly on a leash. Uncle Matty also advised us on how to stop the poop eating, the jumping, and on the relationship with my husband. All three which we have improved greatly on. He has worked wonders!! I highly recommend him for all of your dog training needs.

I recommend Uncle Matty to anyone that needs the very best training for their dog! My 2 year old, 85 pound Lab mix was out of control!! He pulled and lunged while out on walks, barked uncontrollably on car rides, barked at dogs and strangers walking past the house! We heard about Uncle Matty from a friend that hired him to train her dog. Matty came to our house right away and did a personality test on our dog. He's really amazing at training and interacting with dogs. A true professional. I can now take my dog on car rides without him barking aggressively. We are able to walk him again without pulling. We are still doing lessons and I'm so thankful, I've learned so much from him. My dog is a better behaved dog because of Matty!

Uncle Matty has trained both of my dogs and I could not be happier with the results! I am a dog trainer’s worst nightmare, very sensitive, very opposed to traditional training methods like the chain collars and crates. Thought all of it was “mean,” because I didn’t know how to use them properly! Now my dogs love their crates, and seldom need correcting because Matty has done such an excellent job with them. Whenever he comes over, they are so excited to see him. He really understands the psychology of dogs and how to train to their specific temperament and needs. If you’re anything like me, the lessons will probably be tough to adjust to at first, you’ll probably wonder who’s really getting trained - you or your dog - but the results you will see will be worth it in spades! You will be happier with your dog’s behavior, and they will be happier too! And probably like Matty more than you! Thanks for all you’ve done for us Uncle Matty, you’re the best!

Uncle Matty is a great, experienced dog trainer. He has trained thousands of dogs, both large and small. I have known Matty for over 20 years, and during that time, he has effectively trained five of my Golden Retrievers. I like his method of using lots of praise, love and affection while working with the dogs. My dogs were always excited to see him for their weekly sessions. These sessions covered walking on a leash, downs and stays, recalls, and down on command from a distance. After Matty’s training, two of my dogs competed in agility and obedience trials. His training made all five Golden Retrievers great house pets. I highly recommend Matty for training your new dog or your older dog that needs a refresher.

Would I wholeheartedly recommend Uncle Matty as a dog and owner trainer? Definitely! He views the dog/owner relationship as a partnership and training as a journey. From the first session I saw he was a professional. He understands dogs, their owners and has a passion for their training. On his first visit, he took the time to assess Maggie’s needs, listened to my concerns, answered my questions and then presented an individualized training plan for her and me. Maggie’s a rescue who had no real one-on-one interaction with dogs or people before I adopted her. She had no idea how to be a dog! She’d never experienced toys, treats or even petting. She was terrified of everything, everybody and hid constantly. She came with major anxiety/fear/trust issues. Uncle Matty identified these, explaining how she was exhibiting each and how we would help her through them. Maggie’s early training with Uncle Matty was focused on trust, with him sitting on the floor, letting her come to him on her terms. It took a few sessions, then one day she laid down next to him and let him pet her. This was a huge breakthrough. She had started trusting and bonding with him. You should see her now-– she’s a real dog! She plays, has dog buddies, walks on a lead, knows commands, rides in a car and even appropriately barks (Amazon excluded). His love, praise and affection method clearly works. He is exactly what Maggie and I needed. He knows how to address the most difficult situations using love and praise. He is someone with broad knowledge and experience in training, an understanding of dogs and people, and is straightforward, to the point and honest with you. I may not always want to hear what Uncle Matty says about Maggie or me, but he is always right. We are both a work in progress and wouldn’t want to be going through our training with anyone other than Uncle Matty.
