What is foundation training and when can my puppy start?
Foundation training covers the seven key resources you control with your dog to encourage proper bonding and respect. This foundational approach sets the stage for a successful training journey.
What Does Foundation Training Include?
Bonding and Respect: Focuses on building a strong relationship between you and your dog.
Commands: Teaches essential commands like Come, Sit, and Down.
Marker Training: Utilizes “Marker” training combined with treats and positive reinforcement to enhance learning speed.
Communication: Helps you clearly communicate with your dog, making it easier to understand and follow your commands.
Loose Leash Walking: Trains your dog to walk on a leash without pulling.
Distractions and Distance: Prepares your dog to obey commands despite distractions or from a distance.

Your dog will have access to cozy resting areas, ample play space, and a nurturing atmosphere.

How do you handle behavioral issues during training?
We use positive reinforcement techniques to address and correct behavioral issues. Our experienced trainers tailor their approach to each dog’s unique needs, ensuring effective and compassionate training.

How many dogs are in your board & train program at any given time?
We prioritize quality over quantity. We only have 1-2 dogs in our board & train program at a time to ensure each dog receives personalized attention and effective training.

The training period varies depending on the dog’s needs and the specific goals set by you and our trainers. Your dog will receive several training sessions throughout the day. As soon as we can see the dog is consistently exhibiting the desired behavior and isn’t going past their limit, we end that session so they can rest and absorb what they just learned.
Community answer · Underworld Kennels & Dog Training · 2025-09-21
Yes, your dog will receive one-on-one training sessions. Our trainers dedicate ample time to each dog, ensuring personalized attention and quicker learning outcomes.

We prefer not to train dogs inside their homes, as they can become complacent in familiar environments. Training in unfamiliar settings with various distractions enhances your dog’s ability to follow commands. Therefore, we conduct training sessions in parks, at our facility, and occasionally in businesses, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience.
Focusing on one dog and one owner at a time allows us to provide personalized and effective training. Training multiple dogs simultaneously can dilute the quality of the session, so we dedicate our attention to your unique needs.

Is there a size restriction for e-collar training?
E-collar training is effective for dogs of any size, shape, and age above 6 months. For very small dogs, such as teacup breeds, we use a modified collar that relies on vibration rather than stimulation to achieve the desired training results.
Community answer · Underworld Kennels & Dog Training · 2025-09-21
Your puppy can start foundation training once it is at least 9 weeks old and has had at least two sets of vaccinations. This ensures that your puppy is ready both physically and mentally for the training process.

Do the dogs in the program start their training at the same time?
No, the dogs do not start at the same time. We space out the start dates so that each dog has at least one full week of focused training before another dog joins the program.
Community answer · Underworld Kennels & Dog Training · 2025-09-21
What benefits does this approach offer for my dog?
By having only 1-2 dogs at a time, we can tailor the training program to meet your dog’s specific needs. This focused approach leads to more effective behavior modification and skill development, resulting in a better-trained dog.

How do you ensure the health, safety and well-being of the dogs in your program?
We take the safety and well-being of the dog very seriously. Each dog receives close supervision, regular exercise, and a structured routine to ensure a healthy and happy environment. If the dog in the board and train is an “Aggression” case, we only have one board and train during the time they are there to ensure everyone’s safety.
We also have strict protocols in place to prevent any injuries or mishaps during training sessions. Our trainers are highly experienced and skilled at handling dogs of all sizes, breeds, and temperaments.
Community answer · Underworld Kennels & Dog Training · 2025-09-21
Why do you limit the number of dogs in your board & train program?
Limiting the number of dogs allows us to provide individualized training and care. This ensures that each dog can make significant progress and get the most out of their time in the program.

I loved working with Tilly and Raelene. They were very helpful with all of my questions and insecurities I had in my own training and helped me work through issues I had with training my Malinois/BMC mix pup, Jade. Tilly solidified Jade’s potty training and really helped me get some more socialization for her, while laying a good foundation for her scent work. The only thing I think I would have liked more than a 2 week board and train would be to have more time spent with me one-on-one working with my dog as I feel like so much of dog training is really about training people, and I didn’t get as much of that as I probably would have liked. The board and train is more for the puppy and I didn’t get to be a part of that as much as I anticipated or would have liked. For any who read this review looking for fantastic trainers in the Box Elder/Cache county areas, I highly recommend, but make sure you know exactly what you’re after and ask for that appropriately, as I didn’t and that reflected more painfully on my wallet. I may have been better off to go for 4 one hour sessions since I had put in so much of the basic ground work already and really needed some solid direction on some behaviors from that point, but I learned and will continue to improve and have a great resource to draw on when I need help and have more questions in the future. Very happy with Underworld Kennels team and what they do. Thank you!

Would definitely recommend as a trainer she definitely knows what she is doing. She looked after one of our dogs with there board and train program and he has fearful aggression and she not only connected with him but helped him know how to cope with it better. Also he is 10 times better behaved than when he went in. He was our first dog ever so we made lots off mistakes and she helped straighten those out. Once again 10/10 would recommend.

Last week our Chocolate Lab Santana completed her AKC Canine Good Citizen training and certification with Chauntil "Tilly" Thain. This was our first time working with Tilly. She was kind and patient with our 2 year old Lab who suffers from attention deficit disorder. Tilly was also kind and patient with Santana's owner (me) who is a recovering perfectionist. Though my wife would argue the "recovering" part of that last statement. If you are wanting a trainer to help you get your dog to the next level, I highly recommend seeking out Tilly. Picture of Tilly and Santana after completing her AKC CGC certification. Hugs and Luvins on special occasions like graduation day! A well behaved dog is the best Christmas present ever. Thank you Tilly.

Rae and Tilly were great, they were keeping us updated on our dogs health and progress regularly. We didn't have time/energy/knowledge to break the bad habits we let our dogs get into. We wanted to take our dogs everywhere we could, but it was always a hassle. After training and us being trained how to keep the momentum going, we can see more and more progress every training session. As dog owners who were scared of our dogs taking off at any chance, being able to have them sit in the middle of a walk and have confidence that they will stay while we walk away from them, then come as soon as we call, wasn't something we'd dare try. At first the thought of having to train them multiple times a day seemed daunting, but seeing them get better and better is all the motivation we need. And it's only been a few of days, we're excited to see how much better they can become. Only regret is not doing it sooner.
