Urban Dog House

I highly recommend Urban Dog House. I chose them because they came highly recommended by a current client, and after experiencing many of their services over the past few months, I can confidently say that recommendation was well deserved. My dog and I have used a variety of their services, including a home visit, private training sessions both at their facility and at our home, puppy classes, a swim lesson, obedience classes, and daycare. Having experienced so many aspects of what they offer, I’ve seen firsthand that their training, care, communication, and consistency are exceptional. What I appreciate most about their approach to training is that they focus on educating the owners, not just training the dogs. They teach you how to effectively train and communicate with your dog, creating results that last long after class is over. I’ve learned so much through our time with them, and the skills I’ve gained have made a huge difference in how I work with my dog every day. We’ve had classes with Steve and Dexter, and they are incredibly knowledgeable and effective instructors who share the same philosophy and approach. They go out of their way to make you feel supported, and you receive consistent guidance no matter who you’re working with. The entire team at UDH is fantastic, whether it’s the trainers or the support staff. Everyone we’ve interacted with has been kind, welcoming, and genuinely invested in helping dogs and owners experience success. I’ve never felt like their focus was on pushing services. Their priority has always been helping owners better understand their dog and providing the tools and guidance we need to achieve our goals. The clearest sign that I chose the right place for my dog is his reaction every time we arrive. The moment he gets out of the car, he’s excited and eager to see the trainers, support staff, other dogs, and familiar clients. If you’re looking for a place that truly cares about dogs, supports owners, and creates a positive environment where dogs can thrive, I highly recommend Urban Dog House.

I've been going here for both training and boarding. So far, love working with Stephen and the others. Stephen is always willing to text me if there's any issues or if I'm interested in anything addition for my dog. Overall, would strongly recommend others to check them out. Their pedagogy for training I think is perfect for larger breeds, and I think starting training as soon as possible before there's a problem is smart. I feel like I really communicate with my pup rather than just demand her to behave and she's still free to be her ownself. Overall, strongly recommend and I'll keep coming back.

My dog recently diagnosed with a partial cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) tear. The specialist recommended us with a conservative treatment which includes swimming. My dog hates water and I didn't have any lucky to get him swim in the past. Urban dog house and Steve changed that. He did a good job introducing Wilson to the pool and swimming. Steve didn't push Wilson to do more than he is comfortable with. Although Wilson still doesn't love swimming, he definitely doesn't hate it. So that's a big success to me. I'm planning to take Wilson here weekly.

I have been a loyal client of Urban Dog House for almost 10 years. I initially brought my German Shepherd here for training back when it was Cooperhaus, and today, I trust them completely with overnight boarding for both my German Shepherd and my Golden Retriever. They always do a phenomenal job. During a recent 5-night stay, I loved receiving regular digital report cards filled with photos and detailed updates on how they were doing. It brings so much peace of mind. My German Shepherd can be reactive toward other dogs, but the staff handles him with incredible care and expertise. They ensure both of my pups are happy, safe, and well-cared for. I highly recommend Urban Dog House for training, daycare, and overnight boarding. They truly do an amazing job!

I am updating my rating from the 5 stars I gave this location 8 years ago when it operated as Cooperhaus K9, which I loved, to 2 stars based on my recent experience with Urban Dog House. The biggest shift is the atmosphere and methodology. The previous training style was defined by effective, positive lessons led by a passionate trainer. However, the current style, led by the same trainer (now owner), has changed the experience entirely. It has shifted from a learning-based style to one that focuses more on pack-leadership driven by authority, which I felt relied too heavily on forced corrective measures and compliance. (It is important to note that this review is based on my primary lessons with the owner-trainer. I had one substitute lesson with Steve, whose positive style I found excellent, and which I believe reflects the positive feedback others have shared.) My experience highlighted three main factors influencing my rating change: -- Atmosphere: The training environment was tense, always involving a loudspeaker, and felt unnecessarily high-pressure for both dog and owner. The lessons were short on patience and often had a blaming tone on the owners. -- Instructional Consistency: I received conflicting guidance, such as being told to use treats for motivation one moment and then being questioned / challenged for using them right the next lesson. The quality and tone of the training were noticeably inconsistent, creating significant unpredictability from one lesson to the next. -- Blanket approach. There is little knowledge shared or applied on breed-specific traits or behaviors, with all dogs being trained the same way, often defaulting to heavy reliance on prong collar corrections. On the positive side, I found some of the techniques shared to be helpful, and it remains an effective place for dog socialization and calming reactivity. There are some instances of positive enforcement, but again, corrective measures using the prong-collar seems to be the predominant method. Overall, the current training appears to prioritize absolute authority and obedience. I sincerely hope the facility can return to the balanced, effective training approach I valued in the past, one that builds a positive, consistent and lasting working relationship with your dog.
