We adopted Hunter from Von Dubinhaus 3 days ago. He's amazing. Simply amazing. I was very worried having a 115 pound dog around my 6 year old, but Hunter adores him. In fact, his favorite game so far has been 'find your boy' in the sand dunes. He loves car rides and fetch, and hates the school bus for taking his boy away. after asking every vet i knew in portland, interviewing groomers, going to trainers, i accidentally found Paul. I was desperate. i had a 120lb. unneutered agressive purebred shepherd whom i adore. he was abandoned as a puppy and i took care of him daily for hours. but he was not socialized with other dogs and his owner abandoned him in my garage. this dog needed something and fast as he is almost 2 years old. Paul immediately made an appt. and came over to access the situation. i then came to visit his property and he gave me time to think. with tears in my eyes i knew my dog would be put to sleep at ohs. I knew Paul was his only chance at a happy life. It worked. currently, he is being trained and playing with other shepherds. I am hoping he will find a home when Paul finds an appropriate dog owner. my dog will not end up at a shelter or abused by a bad owner. I have Paul's promise that he will wait for the right dog owners. Paul, thank you for saving my dog's life. he did not deserve to suffer for 2 years, and now he has a chance to live. i will forever be greatful. We went to Paul after our 6 year old Karelian Bear Dog got after the mail man. We were expecting our Third child and really needed to address his aggression towards outsiders. He was grumpy with us, but no signs of being dangerous. Through Paul's awesome program we were taught how to handle our buddy properly and how to improve his personal well being. We look forward to working with Paul more in the future to ensure we are all being the best owners and pets possible. Paul makes sure to take his time, go over proper handling skills, how to identify issues and resolve them properly. He does not rush you through basics, or just bulldoze you with information. You will leave each session having learned something new, and or with confidence in yourself and your best friend.

I found Von Dubinhaus out of absolute desperation. My almost 2 year old female German Shepherd, Sage, had a problem with attacking our little dogs. We didn’t know if she was doing it as a dominance thing or is she was just playing too hard. She would attack our Pom/poodle out of the blue. The last two times she attacked her she hurt her pretty bad. We had thought that getting her spay would settle down her drive to be the alpha female in the house. We moved forward on getting her and the other intact dog, a Boston Terrier, spay in late May. This did settle down Sage to a point that we thought all was good. I decided that perhaps introducing a male GSD into the household would be a good idea. We had all female dogs and there needed to be a true Alpha in the house in the Dog pack. I purchased a 12 week old male GSD in August. The puppy and Sage got along fairly well. Well enough that on Labor day weekend we decided to leave the Sage and the puppy outside while we made a short 3 hours trip to a wedding. While on the way we got a call that Sage had attacked the puppy repeatedly. Luckily the puppy was big for his age and survived the attack. I was then faced with possibility of having to give up the Sage or possibly put her down. It was one of the hardest times in my adult life. I decided that my heart wouldn’t handle getting broken without trying to do everything possible before giving up on the Sage. I Googled “ Aggressive Dog Trainers in Portland Oregon” the first site that popped up was Von Dubinhaus. I had visited this website in the past just doing general research. I ended up reading all of the reviews and got encouraged enough to send an Email. I sent the email on a Saturday evening. I had a reply 2 hours later and was on the phone with Paul the next day. The first conversation with Paul was a real eye opener. I’ll be honest I hung up the phone encouraged but at the same time I felt like the worst dog owner in history. The things Paul discussed with me about general dog behavior on that phone call made me realize I had been setting my Sage up to fail. One of Paul’s tag lines is that he not only trains the dog but he trains the owners as well. I didn’t realize how true that statement was until I met with Paul for a temperament test. During the simple temperament test I could see that Paul was super passionate about German Shepherds but even more so about passing on the knowledge that he had to me…the dog owner. Ultimately the course we decided to take with Sage was a board/rehab/and train. Paul uses his own dogs to teach your pet to be social in a pack setting. His pack already has the established pack hierarchy needed to socialize a dog properly. It took 3 months of Sage being at Paul’s before Paul and I felt comfortable in having her come home. Sage is a totally different dog from when we took her to Paul. She is well mannered, she loves training with her collar and going to Paul’s for her weekly sessions. In fact the training went so well that we decided to board and train our male GSD with Paul. Paul saved Sage’s life by answering that email at 11:PM at night on that Saturday in September. I will always appreciate that.

I am a volunteer at a local Humane Soceity in Oregon and Von Dubinhaus has always been very supportive to our program whenever a shepard arrives at our door. He takes dogs that have behavioral problems, are undersocialized or ones that just need help being placed in an adoptive home. He pays for food, meds and training from his own pocket which really shows his dedication to helping homeless shepards. The dogs are all very well trained and he is great at working on and fixing problematic behavior. I would highly reccomend using Von Dubinhaus as a training facility for your dog.
