Walking with Walter Dog Training offers training for every dog and family along the Colorado Front Range. We specialize in advanced and basic obedience. In addition to obedience we provide behavior modification training with a focus on teaching owners how to properly communicate with their dogs. Like any relationship, communication is the key to success. Our training starts with a strong foundation built on the basics. We believe that a well-trained dog listens to its owners and will remain obedient regardless of the circumstances. Our balanced approach yields consistent results.

I have a 7 yr old bulldog who started growling at me when I get near his food. We've never had aggression issues before this started. He has never bitten me, but I am worried he will. What can I do?
If not addressed it can get worse. For the time being I’d recommend making your dog wait patiently while the food is put out. Do not allow him to “rush” the bowl. He needs to understand that protecting his food is an unwanted and unnecessary behavior. However, if you are not comfortable with that, contact me ASAP so we can get to work on changing his behavior.

Why does my 2 year old Black Lab bark every time the doorbell rings?
It boils down to your relationship with your dog and what you allow and don’t allow. If the dog barks and you tell it to stop barking and it does not stop then you’ve got some relationship building to do with the dog. Dogs must understand what good behavior is.

How old does my dog need to be before I start training?
You can start training basic obedience as early as 8 weeks old. In addition to obedience, this is the best time to start introducing your dog to as many sights, sounds and smells as possible. Call me or schedule an evaluation and I am happy to provide some guidance.

My 4 yr old German Shepherd pulls me down the street when we walk. I love my dog, but can’t stand taking him for a walk anymore. Can you help with a dog who has a mind of his own when on leash?
I am sorry to hear that walks have become such a chore. Yes, I can help. I teach owners how to train their dogs to walk nicely on a loose leash. If you are interested in a training session, the best place to start is with an evaluation.

My puppy is eating/chewing everything in the house. How do I stop her?
Chewing is very common with puppies. It is important to have chew toys handy as an alternative to a household item. Show her what is an acceptable item to chew on. The ol’ “this instead of that” technique. : )

I can’t recommend Lawren enough. I reached out to him after my dog had bit another dog. The in home training was fantastic as my dog is mostly reactive around my apartment building. Training at Lawren’s place was also great. Lawren helped me gain confidence that I could control my dog and honestly, training was a blast! Friends and neighbors comment on how well behaved my dog is now. We go to dog parks without worry. Lawren helped strengthen the bond I already had with my pup. Highly recommend.

Where do I begin?... I think I may have given Lawren more than a small challenge in wrangling our VERY high energy 8 month old PWD puppy. He was wild and unmanageable and I was miserable in my own home with this dog. I was blaming myself for getting him and feeling guilty for not knowing how best to guide him, and dealing with three young children on top of it all. I debated sending Scout to the one month "boot camp" given the expense- but I can honestly say now, nearly 3 months later, it was money very well spent. Lawren gave me and Scout a plan of action and gave me tools to use so we can enjoy our time with him and learn to stop his negative behaviors before they occur. He honestly gets better with each passing day and I am so grateful to Lawren for sharing his skills with us. 12/10. Could not recommend more.
