Matthew is a fantastic dog trainer. Each lesson is fun. I grew up training, hunting dogs, and field trial dogs. Every session I seem to learn something new about dog training and how to work with our standard poodle. It has meant a lot to work with somebody with over forty years of experience. I've had my German shepherd Drake since he was a puppy, and I lived alone with him and my other 2 dogs for a while. He's 6 years old turning 7 this year. Not long ago, I moved my girlfriend in with her dog and 2 kids. Drake has had territorial issues in the past with people from outside the house coming in so we knew it would take some work and time for him to get used to other people being in the house. He's good with my girlfriend but when he sees her kids he barks at them. We kept him separated with baby gates so he could see them and we could work with them safely. This was going okay but Drakes behavior hadn't really improved. One day we were getting ready to leave the house so we had him out, the kids were outside waiting for us to come out. Amarie, my girlfriends 17 year old daughter, was coming back in to ask us to unlock the car and Drake attacked her at the front door chasing her into the front yard. He bit her once on the leg and on her arm when she tried swinging at him. I got out there as soon as I could and got him back in the house. Amarie had to get stitches, and we knew we had to figure out something to get the situation under control. One of our first thoughts, which everyone told us we needed to do, was put Drake down. None of us wanted to do that, Amarie included. That being said we had to do something, so we turned to obedience training as a last resort. When we tried talking to trainers about the situation, they told us we were playing with fire, hes a dangerous dog, and that if we did want to go through with training they would charge us over $1000 dollars for beginning courses. Then we reached out to Zehfuss. He did not share the other trainers thoughts. He was confident he could work with us and Drake and wasn't charging us half what the other trainers wanted. Yesterday was Drakes 7th training session, the end of the beginning obedience course, and the difference its made has been night and day. Zehfuss has taught me how to work with Drake and correct his behaviors. Even in just the first 30 minutes we worked with him there was a big difference and Drake has become more and more obedient since then. We discovered Drake isn't a mean aggresive dog, he is protective of the house and felt like he was in control. Zehfuss helped me take control. It hasn't been easy and it isn't over yet, but Zehfuss has showed me what I need to do and how to do it. Thankful that he was willing and able to work with us.
