Above the Standard Dog Training

We started with a wild rescue puppy who would defecate on the couch and floor, swallow rocks, make us chase him to reclaim clothing items, stolen food, napkins and saran from his mouth....We had no idea how to humanly get him under control. He had already been returned to the pound by the last owners, and we were committed to not ever subject him to that kind of emotional pain again. Making matters worse, we initially began with another trainer who was a sole operator, with no other employees or partners working with this other trainer to keep his actions accountable, and our dog had sadly been severely neglected. Our Bank Manager told us that she had entrusted her puppy to fantastic trainers, Above the Standard Dog Training. I had previously admired their Facebook postings regarding service dog training as well as their shelter dogs' training services (which they do to encourage adoption), but I had no idea that they also have trainers to lovingly train a 5 month old mixed breed puppy like mine. What a relief that they could train our baby!! They took my sweet boy into their house and I got to see daily updates of how much fun he was having while learning how to politely engage with humans. It was like an 'all in one' summer camp and finishing school for dogs. After his stay with Above the Standard Dog Training, my trainer came by (-and continues to come by-) to see how we were doing, and to help us with any additional issues. We had already visited our puppy at their facility, but it was such a stamp of approval to see the trainer walk into our house post training (and after our dog had spent so much time with him in his house - yes, they board at the trainer's home), and see his tail wag with incredible excitement. Our dog clearly loves his trainer, and has a deep trusting bond with him.Thank you Jim for adding such puppy joy to our lives. I just can't believe that I am now able to go to a festival and have a dog safely by my side with whom I can now share fun social moments. Thank you Emily for your outstanding dog training business, which is aptly named! We feel absolutely blessed that you were able to put one of your many superb dog trainers, Jim in our case, with our puppy. It was right after my major back surgery and I was in great pain and panicked as to how I was going to manage life with a new untrained puppy. You really saved us, and, this dear rescue puppy of ours.Thank you for being such good and honest people.

Update Since having Emi trained I have kept in contact with above the standards, we have done follow up visits and they have even boarded her during a small emergency, Emi was more than excited to go back! If you want a training relationship that doesn’t end in just two weeks this is the place I am beyond grateful that I found these people and team. To help and take care of my most important family members. 🙏 This experience from the beginning was simply amazing and awesome, I could not be happier to have met the team at above the standard dog training, we finally have control of our dog with the right training and continuation of said training, if you are thinking twice just do it it’s so worth it to have the right tools and training implemented by professionals for your best friend, thank you guys so much I look forward to seeing yall again on the pac walks

We’re very happy with the training and care our dog received. They made sure to teach us the tools as well so that when she came home we could continue to be successful. Any time I have a question or concern they are able to help and respond quickly. Love that you get a trainer for life and not just for a few weeks. Our dog is a happier dog now and we’re able to take her places and broaden her horizons now that she has been through training. We’re very satisfied with Above the standard and would recommend them! Jim at Above The Standard Dog Training was amazing with our dog, Scout! He kept us updated, clearly loves what he does, and truly cares about the dogs. We love that the training happens in the trainers’ home, it feels so much more personal and family-like as opposed to a kennel. Scout is now so much better behaved in public and we can enjoy taking him along on family outings. It's not a magic fix, we still have to continue practicing at home, but the foundation Jim gave us has truly changed our relationship with our dog for the better.
