Alice's Companion Dog Training School, LLC

I took two classes at Alice's and was preparing to keep taking classes because our dog was qualifying for the Canine Good Citizen exam and we wanted to start doing rally training. I never took a class with Alice- she doesn't seem to teach the standard obedience classes- but I've heard very good things about her. The other instructors were hit or miss and several were not skilled teachers- Josh and Larry were condescending or outright rude at times. I have a decently high tolerance for rude instructors, as long as I'm learning, but it rubbed my partner the wrong way. I cannot recommend Alice's though because of several safety incidents from my classes. Two reactive and aggressive dogs were allowed to work on long leads or without muzzles in a group class, even though one bit both instructors and both lunged aggressively at every other dog in the class. We didn't feel comfortable working next to those dogs while doing off leash work. One of the dog's was Larry's (the owner) Australian Shepherd, which he knew to be aggressive- it attacked his own dogs at home, but he brought it to a class and didn't supervise it well anyway. He wasn't training the animal, I think he was trying to socialize it? It was able to attack my dog and me while we were working on off leash recalls because of Larry's negligence in handling it on a loose lead. I did not receive an apology- no one even asked me if I was OK after the attack. In fact, we were immediately scolded by the other instructor, Josh, because my dog and I were not doing the commands he told us to, despite the fact that I was still shaking and my dog was still upset. We left at that point and did not go to any other classes. There's always some risk when working with animals, especially when you have six dogs learning off leash commands at the same time, but Larry's cavalier attitude towards safety when it came to dogs with known aggression issues and bite histories was an unacceptable risk in my eyes. That he didn't even apologize for his mistakes in handling his dog in allowing it to even reach mine was the icing on the cake for me. Sign up for classes here at your own risk- we learned a decent amount, but ultimately, we didn't feel safe in their group classes.
