FirstBarkBarks and Rec does a great job with their puppy classes. We brought our Aussie when he was a few months old and learned a lot. Great instructors and a very nice facility!

About Barks and Rec. Animal Training and Behavior
Barks and Rec. Animal Training and Behavior is the only facility of its kind in northern Michigan. We use modern, science-based, and empathy-driven positive reinforcement training methods to help you and your dog live your best lives together. Our trainers are highly educated in learning theory, behavior modification, ethology, puppy development, behavior analysis, and more. Our services include group classes, private and in-home training for: puppy socialization, manners and obedience; aggression, reactivity, and separation anxiety; CGC testing and therapy dog prep; and dog sports, including agility, scent work, Rally O, and AKC Fit Dog. Visit our temperature-controlled facility located just South of Chum's Corner in Traverse City.

Most qualified, dedicated, knowledgeable trainers I have encountered. The spacious, clean, well-designed facility was a great place to learn. The positive/fear-free training ideology is a running theme in all of the techniques and skills they teach. My dog Grace and I enjoyed two courses so far and will be returning for more. Thank you!

As a veterinary technician I have extensive background training dogs. I have spent the past 3 plus years training with Alicia. She has excellent training skills for both behavioral problems and all levels of obedience. I have put AKC trick titles on my dogs as well as Canine Good Citizen titles. If I have trained dogs myself for 30 plus years and Alicia can help me when I am looking for a different approach to a dog I am working with. I value her opinion and techniques. When you have trained dogs from AKC obedience, personal protection and pro class sled dog racing. You need a trainer that can trouble shoot individual dog issues. I send all of my puppies to Barks and Rec classes!
recently attended a session at Barks and Rec and found the the facility to be top notch. The staff was very friendly and personable. Their use of positive reinforcement methods makes for a very good training experience for both the handler and the dogs. I highly recommend them!
