I cannot say enough good things about Chris and Best By Farr Dog Training. Life with our 1 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback mix had gotten pretty out of control. He jumped on us and on our guests, threw a fit when he didn’t want to do what we asked, and completely brushed us off whenever we called him. Walks were a nightmare for me. He pulled like a tractor, paid no attention to the person at the other end of the leash, and barked, lunged and pulled toward other dogs with a determination that scared the neighbors. After he pulled me down for the second time, I knew we needed more than what a basic obedience class could provide. I read lots of reviews and called several trainers before I finally found Best By Farr. Chris responded promptly, listened patiently to my story, asked relevant questions, and explained how they could help. His knowledge and demeanor put me at ease right away. We enrolled Gunner in the 3 week Board & Train program, and I am so very glad that we did. The entire process was transparent, fair and thoroughly explained. We received regular updates with videos showing Gunner’s progress throughout. Chris responded to all inquiries right away, and Gunner was well cared for. Best of all, he came back a much more well-behaved dog. He has great recall, will stay on “place” when guests come over, and listens to commands. Walks are much better, too, with Gunner pleasantly staying at “heel.” Training didn’t end when the dog came home, either. Chris has taken the time to thoroughly teach us how to communicate with Gunner to reinforce the training. He’s followed through on all commitments, and gone above and beyond to help whenever challenges have arisen (mine, not Gunner’s!). It’s Chris’ dedication to helping his clients succeed that makes Best By Farr stand out and shine in this field. You won’t find any gimmicks or craziness here. Before training my dog was very anxious I'm scared of everything. He used to grow anytime we would walk him and even growl at us we would do things he didn't like. Since training we are able to walk him in public without incident he listens better in the house he seems more confident and just all around a better dog and easier to handle. I 100% recommend using Best by Farr, the training was excellent. Chris helped us understand our dog better and how we should handle him once the training was over.

It takes a few simple commands to stop undesirable behaviors. If you are consistent and persistent, dog training is easy. As a trainer I am neither. Our dog required a pro. Our very friendly “Doodle”, Winston is half standard Poodle and half Newfoundland. This is a large dog, about 90 pounds. His method of greeting a guest is leaning. He places his shoulder at the knee and leans. That loving lean can flatten an unsuspecting person. “Leaning” led us to BestByFarr. Winston knew a few basics, but compliance was shoddy. “Sit” worked until the first distraction. A doorbell brought chaos. The best path was three weeks of Dog College. Three weeks is a long time to lose your constant companion. It was worth it. Chris Farr teaches basic behaviors – a few commands. The training is thorough. When I take Winston into a store on a heel, he stays beside me, ignores other people (and dogs), and sits when I stop at the counter. When guests arrive, Winston takes a place out of the way and stays until released. This is civil behavior. There is no more welcoming while wrestling with a frantic puppy. It takes patience to train dogs but training the owners takes more patience. Owner training makes the difference. Chris is a master at guiding us through command sequences and dealing with aberrant behaviors. While we are still learning, we have the tools and know-how to get proper behavior. It is working. It is a better life when a dog behaves.
