Bluegrass Dog Training

I do not recommed taking a puppy here. I purchased one month of beginner puppy behavior classes for my 8 mo. old shepherd at BDTA, Jan 2022. On Day 1 she, like at least two other puppies in the group class, was scared being in a setting like that for the first time. She snapped her teeth when the instructor approached. In the moment I received no direction from the instructor who just stepped back and threw treats at my puppy who then started guarding the treats. The other two scared puppies were given space and their owners were given instruction. My dog was kicked out of the class, meaning that, at the most basic, I would not be able to take any of the advanced enrichment courses BDTA offers (as basic puppy obedience is a prerequisite for those). I was compensated for my pre-payment of a month of training with a two hour session with their on-staff aggression specialist.This person concluded my puppy was brain damaged, had a difficult life ahead, and would be a danger to myself and others. Euthanasia was recommended. I was told I could shop at shelters for a docile dog that had the same size and look of my dog as a replacement. What the heck ???? I did not return. For all BDTA knows I followed their advice and euthanized an untrained puppy. Confoundingly, they did not have the professionalism to remove my email address from their mailing list. I received two perky advertisements for dog enrichment courses at their facilty. The first was 9 months after my last interaction. I replied that i needed to be removed from the list and why and they in turn responded that they would oblige. Now in December I receive yet another perky email about classes and 2023 training goals, 1 year after being kicked out and advised to euthanize an untrained puppy. I AGAIN replied asking to be removed and why and was again told they would oblige. What the heck is going on at that place? I do not recommend taking a puppy there. FYI: After purchasing two 1-hour classes with a different trainer my puppy and I had the tools we needed. 1 year later she is an intellignt, attentive, loving companion who gets off-leash play, dog park time, is well behaved on a leash, who travels with me, and who is good with other people and animals when introduced properly..... and who is definitely not a menace to society.

We have nothing but amazing things to say about the Bluegrass Dog Training Academy! Arwen and her team are just phenomenal. Our dog Theo has gone through multiple obedience classes and we have been so pleased with her progress. She went from being a difficult to manage puppy to a canine good citizen! She also participates in the barn hunt classes and day camps and loves them. Would highly recommend for any of your dog training needs!
