C J's Dog Training

Arguably the best "K-College" for a puppy to their adult hood. C.J's classes are reasonably priced, they are at good hours for working class people and she will work with any kind of dog and knows a lot about every breed. I've gone to three of the classes thus far; Kindergarten, Beginner and Rally. All three were absolutely fantastic. She also makes sure all the puppies are safe with vaccines and socialization needs. She gives recommendations and takes time to assure the owners and families of the puppy. The best thing I did for my puppy was take him to her. Great stuff C.J! Thank you!

Beware of CJ’s, and DO NOT SIGN that contract OR PAY until AFTER the first puppy kindergarten (primer) class. We made this mistake and unfortunately will not only never get two + hours of our life back but lost our money because we paid and signed the contract up front. Upon entering CJ’s, it is cold, dark, rundown and dirty. CJ was at the front desk and did not greet us - she literally barked at us (no pun intended) for our paperwork. No hello, welcome, how’s the puppy, I’m CJ and will be your trainer, nothing. Fine, whatever. We get through all of that and then proceed to sit in an uncomfortable metal chair for the next two hours through her infomercial, where she literally passed around an entire 4’x8’ table of products to everyone in the class. I don’t know about you but I do not need to fondle cow hooves and half eaten rawhides and rope toys to learn which are good for my dog. CJ also did not need to read the ingredients off each bag of dog treats. I can also do that for myself, thank you. Because of the 2+ hour infomercial, CJ only does 5 classes WITH puppies. She also does not limit the class size. We were pleasantly surprised by Petsmart who for the same price offers 6 classes of training with puppies, has an experienced trainer (though she’s retiring in July) and has a clean, well-lit facility with good parking - AND limits class sizes. PLUS Petsmart guarantees their training, so if you miss a class or just want more training you can go back for as long as you like FOR FREE. Oh, and did I mention they’re friendly? Shame on CJs for being such a poorly-run local business. CJ is unfriendly and all about rules, regulations, and NOT having fun. I’m sorry but I got a puppy to enjoy my life, and am attending puppy kindergarten elsewhere to have some fun while teaching my dog to be an upstanding citizen. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

CJ is a wonderful person and will make you and your dog feel at home and have a good fun time learning the lessons outlined. Every dog gets individual attention from her or one of her knowledgeable assistants in every session. She charges a very affordable tuition and well worth the improvement in the two way relationship with your dog. We'll be coming back for more! Thank you very much for your warm and personable style!

As another reviewer stated -- CJ and her assistant are incredibly kind and pleasant. However, I have found this class to be very unstructured and really ineffective. The training style is literally "all over the place" with tons of steps (to the fact I find it confusing to both the master and the dog). No emphasis in training on being the pack leader and understanding the dog must earn all rewards. My prior dog was trained in Florida with a completely different style and I found his results were much faster, effective, and more noticeable. I am going to finish out this class (since it was paid in full) -- but definitely do not plan on returning to the next level. On another side note -- they seem to work better with dogs and puppies who are naturally calm and dont require a ton of socialization. In my class there were mostly lap dogs who usually slept half the class. The bigger, hyper dogs really seemed to be a bother to them and really don't get the full attention needed. (Just my personal perspective).

We have been working with our dogs here for over 6 years, She is an excellent trainer who teaches people how to communicate so their dogs understand them and follow what they want the dog to do. My dog was able to pass the canine good citizen test as well as become a therapy dog with Pet partners and it was all because of CJs help. I have seen aggressive dogs in our class calm down and become well mannered and shy dogs become more confident. She's the very best!
