We enlisted Calvert Dog Academy's help with our newly rescued "less adoptable" fear aggressive and reactive 3-year-old dog. I called many trainers who just didn't know what to do with an under socialized or traumatized dog, they really only knew how to train commands with a well socialized dog. Calvert Dog Academy understood the breadth and depth of behavioral training, as well as obedience training, using progressive, humane, fear-free methods. Kelly St. Marie is a dog whisperer and understands that it is a patient process to understand what a dog is trying to communicate, offering meaningful gems of wisdom in that communication pathway each training session. She was River's advocate, as well as ours, and rooted us on to take it one-day-at-a-time, pointing out River's marked, and nuanced improvements, each session. Furthermore, Kelly and Elizabeth helped us all prepare to move across the country with River. Elizabeth even found a like-minded and well educated dog trainer in the area that we were moving, to assist us with the transition! We still keep in touch with Calvert Dog Academy (almost a year later) to let them know about River's continued progress. They believed in us AND showed us the ropes to rehabbing a broken dog carefully and thoughtfully with proven positive reinforcement, counter conditioning and desensitization techniques and purposeful correction. They helped us create a foundation of knowledge, timing and confidence in the process. It continues to be a phenomenal and deep journey rehabbing River, and we are endlessly grateful to Calvert Dog Academy for being our first dog rehab allies!
