CANIS - Dog Behavior & Training

I did a LOT of research before choosing a board and train program for Murphy. I spoke with multiple trainers, toured and consulted with different facilities, asked a million questions, and was very particular about who I was going to trust with my dog for four weeks. I am so incredibly happy I chose CANIS. Brennan was Murphy’s primary trainer, and I genuinely cannot say enough wonderful things about him. He is incredibly knowledgeable, patient, thoughtful, and clearly cares about the dogs he works with. But what impressed me just as much is that this absolutely extends to the entire CANIS team. Every person I interacted with was supportive, knowledgeable, encouraging, and so obviously passionate about what they do. You can tell how much they love these dogs and how much pride they take in their work. What I especially appreciate about CANIS is that they understand a successful board and train isn’t just about training your dog. They have to train you, too. They put so much time and effort into teaching me how to communicate with Murphy, understand what he needs from me, reinforce everything he learned, and continue building on his training at home. They never made me feel silly for asking questions, were incredibly patient while I learned, and made sure I actually understood the why behind what we were doing rather than just handing me back a dog who knew some commands. Murphy learned an incredible amount in four weeks, but so did I. More importantly, I feel like we came out of the program with a stronger foundation for our life together and a team of people in our corner who genuinely want to see us succeed. Leaving after graduation was honestly bittersweet because Murphy absolutely loves everyone there, and I’ve grown pretty attached to them too! 😂 Thankfully, this isn’t goodbye. I’m thrilled that I found CANIS and fully intend to continue bringing Murphy back so we can both keep learning. Brennan and the entire CANIS team, thank you for everything you poured into my little guy (and into me!). We’ll see you again very soon. ❤️

I had a fantastic experience with Hunter and the Canis team! My dog, Honey, was previously quite difficult on the leash and struggled to interact well with other dogs. After just two weeks of training with Hunter, Honey has transformed into a much more manageable walking companion and is now playing nicely with other dogs, showing greater consideration for them. The training program equipped me with a variety of tools and techniques that I can implement at home. Additionally, the team was incredibly attentive, providing regular updates and promptly answering any questions I had. Thank you, Hunter and Canis, for your amazing support!

We brought our 5-year-old Husky, Mia, in for training, and from the very beginning, every staff member was amazing. After our initial consultation, we knew this was the right place for us. Since then, they have not only met but exceeded every expectation we had. Christiana was Mia’s trainer, and she did an exceptional job. She, along with the rest of the staff, took the time to build a genuine relationship with Mia, and I truly appreciated how supportive and encouraging they were throughout her entire training journey. If you think your dog is too old to start training, Mia is proof that it’s never too late! We’ve already seen such a positive difference in her, and I’m so excited to continue her journey through the group classes and watch her progress even further. The team is also incredibly flexible and willing to work around your schedule, which made the entire experience even easier. We couldn’t be happier with our experience and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a caring, knowledgeable, and supportive training team!

My son Rusty has fine-tuned so many of his skills he learned from his board and train in the City Dog group classes! He has become a lot more desensitized to other dogs while on the leash, and can navigate public spaces in a more organized and calm way. I feel way more confident taking him in public and am less anxious about him having a freak out when other dogs are nearby. I highly recommend the City Dog group classes!

I am so glad a neighbor told me about CANIS. The experiences we have had so far have been super positive. We have a 5 y/o pittie/kelpie mix and a 7 month GS/malinois mix. We have had both pups stay with them for short-term boarding, and they always come back happy and well taken care of. However, the real magic of CANIS is the trainers. We were looking to start our Remy (GS/malinois mix) in training right away, as she was definitely living up to the "maligator" nickname, chewing and biting everything and everyone. I chatted with Hunter to learn more about CANIS and the services available. That first conversation immediately put me at ease. Hearing his own experiences of having the same breed pup and all that CANIS could help us with felt like the right decision for us. We signed up for the Puppy Academy I class, and I'm grateful we did. The first class with Brent felt like a lifesaver! He immediately got my pup to calm down when she was acting like an overly anxious, excited pup (I think my jaw literally dropped). Hunter came to meet Remy before class, too, affirming that we made the right decision. We have since completed Puppy Academy I and II with Brent (outdoor long-leash training being something I didn't think we could ever do with our pup), then made the decision to put her in the 4-week boarding and training program. Seeing videos of Remy calmly walking in stores and listening to Hunter's every command made my jaw drop again! Truly the best decision we could have made. Brent, Hunter, and the whole team at CANIS took such great care in training our furry baby and us! They do an excellent job in explaining the psychology of what's happening with our dogs, how we can help them learn good behaviors and make better decisions, and become more confident pet parents. Our Remy is now able to walk on a leash without chewing it, thinks before trying to bark at other people/dogs, and has gotten much better at not lunging at everything and everyone. I feel way more confident when walking her in our neighborhood to the point a neighbor asked if I was a trainer. I HIGHLY recommend CANIS to everyone and will continue to take more classes to keep leveling up our pup's training.
