The program is much more than “obedience training” as in our case, they looked at the “whole dog” addressing anxiety, fearfulness and providing us with tools and structure for moving forward. After taking home our 7-month-old puppy, “Bugsy” home from a local adoption event, we quickly realized we needed help. Bugsy was a sweet, affectionate, ball of energy with no house manners whatsoever. She was afraid of almost everything and everyone. Getting her through the front door for a walk was almost impossible. Loving this sweet girl to death, it was still difficult to imagine a happy, enjoyable life together for all concerned. We felt somewhat guilty sending her off to “boarding school” but told ourselves it was for the best. By the end of three weeks it was very clear Bugsy was having the time of her life and we were concerned she would be happy to returning to us. Now home, Bugsy is so much happier and so are we. We can enjoy each other’s company throughout the day. She has mastered ‘heel’ and is out and about the world on a regular basis. We can direct Bugsy away from annoying behavior or trouble via the ‘PLACE’ command – our favorite. She can now finish the day with us snuggling in front of the TV before happily going off to her crate. We are very confident in recommending Companion Canine. A rewarding, worthwhile experience.

Companion Canine Dog Training has been life changing for my dog and I. Words cannot express how grateful I am for the services. Who says you cannot teach an old dog new tricks?! Becky and Gueseppe were able to teach my six year old stubborn hound how to be the best boy he could be. He has always been a good boy, but there was a big need for improvement in obedience when taking him out in public. One of the biggest goals I desired was the ability to safely and confidently walk my dog in a city and/or rural setting. Prior to training we spoke at length of short term and long term goals for my dog. I appreciated the clear communication and outline of the programs offered. We started in the winter with one to one private classes. I appreciated the training, lessons and homework each week. Over the course of the board and train my dog built upon his obedience foundation further and learned new behaviors building his confidence. I appreciated the updates I received. Photo and video updates were shared with friends and family who expressed shock at the amazing progress made! When it was time for pick up, I felt empowered with the tools, education, and clarity on to how to continue my dog’s new positive behavior. We are a testament that the programs and training provided works. The relationship between my dog and I is stronger than ever. A few weeks later my dog and I were able to stroll the streets of Portland safely and confidently. We have even been able to enjoy meals on dog friendly patios not only once but a few times with family and friends who keep asking “how?!” “are you sure this is the same dog?!” Haha! I can tell he is excited to go on these outings and I am so so grateful to be able to take my dog out in public with confidence in the training received. Companion Canine’s board and training program was the best choice we made for our family! We adopted Falcon about 4 years ago and has always been a decently mild mannered dog, but he had room for improvement. His listening skills and recalls would falter in public leaving us with a lack of confidence going out or bringing him around other dogs. Along with reintroducing kennel training, which was a very challenging process because he would bark, pant, and cry, leaving us feeling like failures. In only 3 weeks, Falcon has made quite the turnaround! We now are no longer worried about whether or not we would be equipped to bring him out in public with other dogs. Not only is he better with his listening, his recall is no longer a stressor. His kennel training has improved greatly, we are no longer being woken up at all hours of the night. Becky and Gueseppe were the only option we considered when it came to dog training. They are both highly skilled and knowledgeable, choosing was a real no-brainer.

I sent my dog to Companion Canine for a three week board and train and I couldn’t be happier with not only the results, but the entire process. Prior to finding Becky and Gueseppe I had said I would never send my dog to a board and train and I meant it! But what Companion Canine offers is radically different from your average BnT. I liked the fact that my dog would be living in their home with their dogs and working on our goals in a thoughtful, measured environment; not locked in a kennel for most of the day getting no exercise or socialization and losing his house manners. They spoke with me at length about my dog, our life, our problems and our goals. They never promised a quick fix (which would have been a red flag,) but instead explained their methods and were very clear about the work we would have to do at home to achieve our goals. I never once felt judged or talked down to in our conversations, and I can’t say the same for other trainers I interviewed. At the end of the three weeks I was so impressed with what they had accomplished! One of my major goals was neutrality around people and dogs and hot dang if we don’t have an incredible foundation for that now. I was able to walk my dog through a bustling tourist town on a weekend, something that would not have been possible before his trip to the farm! A big part of that success is the time Companion Canine spent coaching ME, making sure I understood how to handle these situations and what would work best for my dog. What I have learned has not only made my life with my dog better, but I know will have a positive impact on my future dogs as well. Becky and Gueseppe still answer my texts and emails in depth any time I have questions, and the support they offer is truly invaluable. Any time I have an issue they are always there to help, coming up with creative solutions to whatever we’re going through. I count myself lucky to have found them and intend to continue using their services to level up throughout the life of my dog.
