Hi, Astraia -- You purchased a spot in a six week basic obedience class and only attended one class. The prerequisite for the class is that dogs must be friendly and non-reactive to both people and dogs. I do not offer free evaluations of dogs before they attend class sessions. That is a paid appointment that people are welcome to purchase -- a behavior consultation -- but you declined that paid service. Prerequisites are clearly listed for each class. You attested to your dog's behavior as being friendly on your intake form. Unfortunately, your dog was not friendly and was lunging, growling and barking at all the dogs throughout most of the class. He had to be separated from the rest of the group to keep him under threshold. I understand that sometimes there are surprises with dogs' behavior in new or different situations, so I gave you extensive individualized attention during the class both for the reactivity and the obedience exercises. When you did participate he improved and was not reactive. However, most of the time you chose not to participate or follow these instructions. Instead, you were tugging with him with a frisbee which only ended up increasing his arousal and also his reactivity and aggressive behavior. I asked you not to do this and you continued anyway. Your dog is a mix of herding breeds but he is not a dog bred of working lines, which is what you claimed made the reactive and anxious behavior normal. Despite all of this, I conveyed that I was still willing to work with you to help your dog, but that you had to follow specific instructions in class. Unfortunately, you had your personal assistant call and leave me a voicemail demanding a refund for the class session. When I contacted you directly to inquire as to the issue you demanded a refund or else you would leave a bad review. You made this threat multiple times to leave a bad review if you did not get a refund, despite having clicked and agreed to the no refunds policy when you signed up for the class. I offered to continue working with you but you refused and wanted the refund. This class was transparently listed as "no refunds" in multiple places before signing up because there is a wait-list for sign-ups for this popular class. It is not a class where we can add in a student after it has already started. Students must commit to the whole six week session. People must be honest about their dogs' behavior and willing to listen in order to learn. I cannot make anyone be those things. They have to come ready to learn. I wish you the best. -- Eileen
