Dog Sports At Kim's

During our 3rd group lesson of a beginning agility class, the trainer, Patty, struck my dog, open-handed, with force, and out of anger as a 'punishment'. She was talking to me after attempting an exercise and during this idle phase he sniffed around and was attempting to mark a piece of equipment. She was holding the leash at the time and was cognisant enough of his tell behaviors to say "oh no, you don't" before striking him. Rather than give a distracting leash-pop, or knocking him off balance to redirect, a professional dog trainer hit my dog in front of me and in full view of the class. She immediately told me that she "doesn't normally hit dogs". A statement which I A. fail to see the relevance of given that she does in fact hit dogs, and B. I doubt the sincerity of if this was her 'instinctual' reaction to a dog marking in a pee covered gym. C. "I don't normally hit dogs" is something I could see in shock reaction to self-defense/aggression - but certainly not marking in a dog park. She repeated this phrase a few times to justify her behavior, I assume for the benefit of the rest of the class who did not just have their dog struck by their trainer - everyone saw this and they all just stood there; no one said a word including other staff. She walked away to go get the spray cleaner as I stood there slack-jawed and in shock. I offered to clean his mess (I fully understand that is my responsibility), she refused, and I told her we were leaving. We will not be returning and I emailed both her and the owner and was "refunded" half the fee this morning (so I literally paid for the half session we attended where she hit my dog) - no reply to the email from either party. I have additional concerns about how she structured the class and trained (there was no "beginning" to the beginner level; a lot of expected specific knowledge and terms with no "teaching" of those things; and a lot of focus on advanced things like memorizing the course layout when neither I or my dog had even been introduced to the equipment - overall the class was taught as if it was an intermediate class as foundations and fundamentals were never covered, but I figured we singed up for 6 weeks, it's not how I would teach a beginning class of anything, but we would see it through and reassess how it was going at the end of our 6 weeks) - but this is entirely beside the point that they employ trainers who hit animals as "training".
