Gary Maria Professional Dog Training

I worked with Gary almost 10 years ago when we rescued our lab, Jackson. I didn't hesitate and hired Gary again when we rescued Bella, our golden retriever, about two months ago. Gary is so good with dogs, understands their behaviors and needs so well. He taught me how to work with Jackson and now Bella so that my dogs would walk with me on leash and behave appropriately at home. Without Gary we would be struggling daily but his guidance and training helped me understand what I needed to do to and how to work with my dogs. Gary was such a pleasure to work with, and incredibly insightful on my dogs needs and areas he needed to work on-primarily impulse control. He enabled me to recognize what I should be doing for my dog to prevent issues, and gave me the tools to train and correct him. My barking, jumping over-excited Australian Shepherd, now checks in with me every few seconds while walking, can handle company walking in the door without jumping spastically on them, stays on command and has made significant progress with recall training. Gary's program brings out the loyalty and best friend in your dog. Having been at several local group training sessions, I can promise you, you will get so much more out of the investment with Gary's unique and personal approach.

Gary is a great dog trainer! I have a Shichon puppy (Shih Tzu and Bichon Frise mix). We started with Gary when my puppy was 10 weeks old. I really like to positive reinforcement training technique. Our puppy was always excited to see Gary for our weekly sessions and we and our puppy learned so much from Gary! Gary is easily accessible for questions or concerns that I have even after my training sessions have ended. Every advice he gave me to address issues worked! That says a lot about his years of experience. Thanks Gary for your knowledge and training!

Gary is a fantastic trainer--qualified, intuitive and kind. We discovered Gary after adopting our Pit Bull/Lab mix, Zoë from a shelter. Gary quickly picked up, from her mannerisms, that she had suffered abuse and taught us how to interpret her happiness and occasional anxiety. Gary truly knows how dogs think. He taught us how to communicate with Zoë so that she could learn basic, reward-based commands and proper leash-walking. Because of Gary, we developed a wonderful relationship with Zoë, and deepened our bond with her in a very short amount of time. Not long after we completed our training, our vet discovered an inoperable tumor in Zoë's nose and we had to put her down. We will be forever grateful to Gary for giving us a few fantastic months with our sweet dog before we lost her.

When we brought home our 8 week old labradoodle, Wally, he was extremely anxious. When we took him to group puppy trainings he would end up hiding under my chair, he was cautious of people and other dogs. We ended up calling Gary and having him come out for a consultation. I remember how much my wife and I learned in that first consultation session. He was able to read Wally's behavior and give us tips as to how to get him more comfortable around others as well as provided advice that heavily expedited house breaking. We ended up enjoying working and talking with Gary so much that we ended up getting a further 6 sessions. By the next session, a week later, it was like night and day. Now, all of this doesn't even include the great training that we received. What I really liked about Gary was that he took the time to explain the why around everything we did and you could see all of the research, experience, etc. come through. Understanding the why also made it much easier for myself and my wife to quickly learn and remember the commands. We really loved working with Gary and he was kind to the entire family. All of us learned a tremendous amount in those 6 sessions. Definitely would recommend him hands down, and we will definitely engage with him moving forward if we want to do further training with Wally or if we were ever to get another puppy.
