Hawaii Dog Training Academy

We absolutely loved our experience with Hawaii Dog Training Academy. Our pup did a 6 week course with some of her littermates. They were 5 months old at the time. Most of us had begun using basic commands. Eric and his team helped us build on and solidify those skills. We changed the wording of our commands to benefit both our control and our sweet girl's understanding. Eric also helped us with learning and understanding how to use different collars, harnesses and leashes. The training area is easy to get to and perfect for working on all manner of skills with any sized dog. I highly recommend for all dog training needs. Mahalo nui Hawaii Dog Training Academy!

WELL-BEHAVED PUPPIES! We have two, 1-year-old Golden Retriever puppies who are great with people and other dogs, and relatively well behaved at home. But they are 75 lbs each, and when it came to walking them, taking them hiking or heading to the beach, we knew they were going to pull us to the point of making the outings very stressful and possibly even cause us injury. At times, it seemed hopeless. No matter what training techniques we tried, what classes we took, or what magical collars or leashes were recommended, they didn’t work. The other issue is the puppies weren’t always good about coming back to us if we took them to the park or beach. We needed a big intervention! When I talked with Eric at Hawaii Dog Training Academy, I knew he was going to have the solutions and help us move quicker to the kind of life we wanted with our dogs. Liko and Kai spent three weeks with Eric and Iwalani. They trained them at their home, and at the Waimanalo field and at the mall. They even had an outing at Ala Moana Center! When we met up three weeks later, naturally we human parents needed training, and Eric and Iwalani were excellent and patient teachers. The happy ending of this story is we can now take the dogs walking without being pulled, they come back when we call them, and we have been taking them on outings to restaurants, stores and malls. They are completely different puppies. Eric, Iwalani and the other trainers at Hawaii Dog Training Academy are definitely the dog whisperers of the island, and we highly recommend them!

We board and trained our dog Mugi for the 2 week program while we were out of country. Mugi is stubbornly smart and cute which lead us to unwittingly encouraging bad behaviors such as leash pulling, dog and person reactivity, and resource guarding. Off the bat, Eric made it clear that he knows how to handle dogs, and with his extensive resume and exclusive (seriously awesome) training facilities out in Waimanalo, we were quickly inclined to believe him. When we picked Mugi up from her 2 week board and train we were offered a demonstration and walk through of key commands that she learned over stay. Upon returning and having had Mugi back home for a day now, we can confidently say that Eric is a dog guru! She is now able to walk without pulling, we are able to have her stay in place without moving for extended periods, and do not have to worry about her reacting to other people or dogs. Additionally, Eric and his team have provided us with methods and instructions for handling Mugi's resource guarding behaviors that other instructors/businesses did not even want to address or attempt to. We will definitely be using Hawaii Dog Training Academy in the future, and can't wait to continue our journey and training with our dog Mugi. Thank you so much, Kiana, Kovy, and Mugi!

We've known Eric for several years now due to both of us being active in dog sports. We've seen how hard he works and how dedicated he is to the training of his own dogs and the dogs of his clients. Which is shown through his many accomplishments. He is also just an all around great guy in general. So when we were about to have our first litter of Working Line German Shepherd puppies, I knew that I wanted to provide the new puppy owners an opportunity to attend an obedience class to help them train their pups to be productive members of society lol. So of course I went directly to Eric to see if he'd be willing to hold a group class for my puppy buyers. Not only was he willing to but he was genuinely excited and happy to do it. The pups and their owners went through a 6 week course that went over engagement, luring, sit, downs. place, loose leash walking, recall, etc.. and those who were committed to training with their pups saw a real improvement in how they were able to communicate with their pups and how their pups behaved. He was also there to answer any questions they had and will still help answer any questions they may have even though the class has finished. I would recommend Eric any day and will for sure be going back to him when we have another litter of pups.
