Jornada Setters

We talked to Dennis and put a deposit down for a dog which ended up being about a year and a half process. We bought our dog being told it was a UKC dog. When we picked her up Dennis told us they were running behind on paperwork so it would take awhile. We have constantly been contacting Dennis about paperwork and have been ghosted. Always some excuse. Hearing from other breeders/trainers the delay excuse is a lie. When we got her she had 2 different parasites and fleas . The fleas actually caused infection in her ears. More than a month of vet visits and $1k+ vet bills. If you go to his facility you will understand why this could happen. Pretty sad situation. He was difficult to deal with and I would never recommend working with him. We do love our girl and she is beautiful though. Disappointed in what was promised though, not a reputable breeder/trainer. We got our girl in August and have held back from posting something hoping he would make things right. Still nothing so I think other ppl should know who they are dealing with. I posted a review on his fb page and now he has blocked me. That says a lot. He replied that I was dishonest. Dennis, point out anything that I wrote that was untrue. I can send you copies of the vet bills. She is almost a year old and we still don’t have any paperwork. Can you dispute that? You have our number and could call and clear anything up, will you do that? I bet no.

I had known Dennis for a few long years now, I had have the pleasure to own a dozen of his Llewellins and hunt over them for well over a decade now; smart, loving, intense, intelligent and hard driven setters the least to say. We have two setters from Jornada Setters. Our first was a one year old started dog named Star. His name is appropriate as he turned out to be a rock star👍 A wonderful dog both as a pet in the home and as a first class bird finding machine. Our second Jornada Setter is a full brother to Star by a later litter named Cody. Cody is equally as nice a dog as Star ⭐️ in every respect. A love in our home and a beautiful bird dog. Both are smart and driven to hunt. I want to be clear that these dogs are not “dogs in a can”. It takes time to love, train and nurture them, but if you put the time in the reward is great. I was searching for a started Llewellyn Setter early this year. This was probably not a unique situation, but it did feel that way to me. I had a male Setter that had just undergone chemo therapy buying him and me some time with not a real good estimate of how much. Dennis from Jornada Setters talked to me for awhile and discussed how one of his started dogs could work for me and I laid out details of what I was expecting and the constraints I was working with. I had a good natured male with cancer and another retired female who could be problematic with an incompatible addition to the household. My dogs are household pals as well as hunting dogs. He took some time and later came up with his recommendation. Nanook was a little older at 2 1/2 but he thought his temperment would fit right in. At one point Dennis had been considering keeping Nanook as he had already become quite attached. I live in Michigan and flew out to get Nanook renting an Suv to drive us back. From that point it's been fun and entertaining to watch a dog go from a desert environment to living conditions here in Michigan. Everything is new. We started field work in field grass that at times was near chest high on me. Nanook did very well on standing his birds and early on was obeying field commands so well that I quickly went to off check cord work. Once Michigan's ban on running dogs on wild birds was over wee began making trips north for grouse / woodcock work. These are birds that Nanook has never seen and it took a few but he is already pointing those as well. Like any dog running northern Michigan he did have an unfortunate encounter with a porcupine but all things considered it was n't too bad. Through it all Dennis has been available to respond to questions I have sent his way and I have tried to keep him updated on Nanook's progress. Really looking forward to the start of regular hunting season and Nanook is very close to being ready. I think the two of us will have a blast this fall and I think Dennis made a great choice for me. He did send me pictures and videos of Nanook while training out there and I was impressed with how well the dog was doing. Attaching a picture of Nanook relaxing at home

We have never had such loving, devoted and well trained dogs as we have with Dennis and Jornada Setters. Creating memories every year with Daisy and Hobbs now 10 and 5 years old. Not only in the field but in our everyday life. They live with us in the home but are all business in the field. If you want to talk ability to point birds, I have shot 1800 birds over the two dogs combined. Each dog has their own personality but the outcome is always the same in the field.
