Master K9 Dog Training

We truly owe it to Master K9 and Dan who was flexible on scheduling, communicative, punctual, and a real professional in turning my dog into “Teka the FORMER Bad Dog”. Teka was a well exercised puppy, had the basics in our own space but when she got a little bit a freedom, albeit accidently or intentionally, she became an unrecognizable, wild thing. She never ran away, always stayed close and often would relax in the sun or sniff each neighborhood stoop but then wouldn't ever let me get within arm’s reach. She learned that coming inside from an escape meant the end of her unapproved fun. I managed to get her back inside using a variety of tricks... a trail of treats, a neighbor dog, ignoring her, chasing her back inside, etc. There are only so many tricks that exist for this type of situation and she's so smart that a trick works on her only once. Last July, my 72 y/o mom and I took Teka to an awesome dog park we frequented. We started getting ready to head home around 9 PM when Teka decided she didn't want her fun to end, and she wasn't going to come home with us. I tried the normal tricks with the help of the other dog park people to no avail. We'd even wait in the car for an hour at a time to see if she was interested in coming after being alone in the park. She wasn't. At 1 am, after trying literally everything, I had no choice but to leave Teka at the dog park to take my elderly mom home. I left a note on the fence and figured when I came back at 6 am Teka would certainly be ready to come home, after being alone all night. Much to my disappointment, she still wouldn’t come closer than arms reach. After another 5 hours of futile attempts, I certainly thought Teka would live at the dog park, be the dog park dog who everyone knows and takes care of but no one would know of her mysterious origin. After nearly 12 hours, I decided to call animal control. They were able to capture her using a catch pole, which ended our almost 15-hour dog park trip. Teka spent the next 5 months on a 6-foot leash, inside and outside. An e-collar would be our lifesaver, but I didn't want to risk making any mistakes by doing it myself and ruin our chances. Dan came highly recommended by several folks and we decided to give it a shot, after a quick call to explain her issues, Dan agreed to take us on. Teka quickly learned the ropes with the slip lead and eventually the e-collar to replace it. Teka relearned all of the basics as groundwork, including door manners, and place. Dan taught her how to heel and walk without a leash. He also helped me address some of Teka's fears, like big doors, sudden movements, and water bottles. We were diligent about practicing what we learned with Dan in 5-minute sessions several times a day. We did a total of 5 sessions. The sessions were 60-90 minutes long and a little too long for Teka so she'd sometimes quit on us, but Dan was quick to sub in my brother’s dogs who needed help controlling barking, behaving in cars, and leash walking. Graduation day was a visit to a dog park which gave me serious PTSD I was almost in tears. Dan assured me she'd come back. It was really something special to see her enjoying her freedom again. It's been 7 months since we worked with Dan, and I still reinforce the training we did, I use his methods to teach her new things. Now we live on the road and are always exploring the great outdoors. Teka doesn't need to be on a leash because I trust her 100% with a fully charged e-collar and about 80% without it. She loves the freedom and I think she knows she's earned it. I truly appreciate comments from strangers about how well behaved Teka is because we've both come so far. I'm so proud of this dog that sometimes, I'll call her from the other side of a dog park where she's running around with other dogs just to show off. Dan & Meg took my 8 month old rambunctious And unruly German Shepherd and truly transformed her into an angle. She listens, walks so wonderfully on the leash, she doesn’t jump on guests or visitors nor does she bark uncontrollably when the doorbell goes off. I can not believe how good and behaved she is. I would recommend anyone who is thinking about getting training for dog to use Dan & Meg. They informed us of her progress, sent videos and updates they even educated my family and I on how to walk, correct and reward our puppy. Great people, great company and great services.
