At MLK9 Dog Training, we start by teaching parents how to communicate with their pets using clear commands and rewarding good behavior. Our training methods are based on the science of learning theory and modern, humane dog training techniques. We use positive reinforcement as our primary method of increasing your dog's motivation to learn and to behave in a way that you like better than before. We also use "reward-based punishment," which means that if your dog does something wrong that you don't want him to do, you don't punish him , instead, you simply remove the reward for a short period until he learns not to do it anymore. I sent two dogs for training. Padme did the 6 week training because she was aggressive with other dogs that I came in contact with including a smaller dog in the home. It was very difficult for us to even try to get them used to each other because the smaller dog would never be still. We sent Padme first then the small one, Daisy, a few weeks later for training. Daisy came back much calmer and she and Padme can now be in the same room. Each day they get more and more comfortable being in same room. Padme was also trained to be off leash with me outside. She is doing remarkable already. She is often looking at me to make sure she doesn't roam too far and often sits at my feet without me asking her to. I am thrilled to be able to have her off leash now. Andy has worked so well with them and us. He returns all my texts for questions I have while I am still learning. And if you are hesitant to leave your dog, it is worth it. Andy kept reassuring me the day I dropped off Padme as I was trying to hold back the tears. I felt better when I left and especially after the first video where I could see she was happy.
Andy was great with Lucy! She is high energy and he help show ways to calm her and not bark as much.
We are really pleased with the training. Andy was super knowledgeable, communicated any issues up front, and very willing to answer any questions. Our dog Hank was excited to see him during the follow up lesson which was very reassuring that everything went well!
