Northern Tails Dog Training & Intuitive Animal Communication

Anytime we head north of Deer Park on hwy 395, Meg gets excited hoping we are going to go visit Lisa and Dharma. Lisa treats each dog (and owner) as an individual, understanding that there is no one training technique that works for all dogs (or people). Classes with Lisa are not just about learning to train your dog, but also about building a good relationship and helping your dog become the best dog she can be. Lisa taught me how to help insecure, nervous Meg transform into the happy, confident dog that she is today. Dharma showed Meg that other dogs are not all scary and can be fun. Lisa also helped Meg and I build on our relationship in the ever-so-much-fun play class, which had the unexpected result of teaching Meg to expand her play style with not just me, but other dogs as well. Lisa is the best! She's great with dogs but what I most appreciate is her sensitivity to people since in a lot of ways, in a dog training class the onus is really on you--as the owner--to learn how to communicate effectively with your dog. It has the potential to be an intimidating experience. But Lisa has a real gift for creating a supportive atmosphere in which your dog AND you can thrive and learn. And that's without sacrificing the discipline necessary to do the work. Lisa is also able to communicate a lot about how dogs think and behave. I'm now much better able to decipher not only my own dog's behavior, but other dogs as well.
