Off Leash K9 Training Twin Cities

Just picked up our 11 mo old husky-shepherd mix Stella from her 2nd week of training. Abie did such a great job with her - she's a totally new dog! Enjoyed receiving the daily progress videos. We're amazed at what the 2 weeks of training has done. She even had to have a break between her 2 weeks as she went into heat and still returned with knowing/doing everything we asked for and are looking forward to being able to have her outdoors with us offleash and not afraid of her running off.

Both my dogs participated in the three week Board and Train with Abie. Their behavior and response dramatically improved while with her. They obviously formed a tight affectionate bond with Abie. The daily videos were helpful to me and the transition to home lesson was very thorough. I always felt Abie was available to answer questions during the training and remains so after. I highly recommend Off Leash K9 Training for anyone. The Board and Train program was a game changer for my dogs and me. Thank you Abie!!!

Abie was absolutely amazing! We struggled to find the time and consistency to train our high-energy and extremely loving 1-year old pup. A coworker recommended OLK9 and we were matched with Abie for a two-week session. We received daily update pics and videos. Abie transitioned the training to us and we continue the training at home (with occasional check-in refreshers from Abie). Our pup now walks off leash, plays catch at the park, and no longer jumps up on every person she meets. We could not give a bigger endorsement!

I did 8 session behavior modification with Don Shaw for resource guarding and reactivity with my 3yr old AmStaff and could not be happier with the results. Don was extremely knowledgeable and personable during our sessions and taught me how to continue our training in real life situations. Previously my dogs had to be separated from each other and now they are able to be out around the house, play, and go on walks together. Off Leash K9 truly changed our lives for the better and I could not be more grateful to Don for the knowledge he gave me. Thank you for everything!!

I believe this is the first review I’ve ever done! But here it goes! I had been fostering dogs for almost a year when I foster-failed a super-mutt pittie we call Hazel. Hazel stole my heart within days of her arrival- I dare to say she’s my soul dog. But she had almost a year of trauma before she found us, some of it too heartbreaking to share. Because of that, Hazel was a pretty nervous girl. She’d cower if someone’s hand moved too quickly in her direction, she’d run when afraid… and she’d get easily overwhelmed in new situations. But she wasn’t highly reactive and I could see all her potential… I just needed to find a fantastic trainer to help bring it to the surface. That trainer was/is Don. Hazel spent 4 weeks in Don’s board and train in January of ‘25. For the first week they did very little formal training as Don needed to allow Hazel the time to settle in and relax. He was patient with her and followed her lead- he was creative finding tools to help her, like the black box she’d practice putting her head into for treats. He even kept her longer than initially planned just so he didn’t have to pressure or rush her growth. We’d get daily videos and updates along with a training session when we picked her up. And the dog that came home to us was SO different- she understood what we wanted from her and was quick to try and follow those commands. In short, it was as though she’d grown up! And started to truly heal from her mistrust of people… and what a joy to see! We recently used Don again for boarding Hazel for 2 weeks while we were on vacation. Again, he went above and beyond. He did some practice sessions with her to reinforce her clicker training as well as allowing her some more practice being around other dogs (a big distraction for her). We even got a few videos of those sessions. And his fee was super fair! Far better than the people we’d hired from Rover with little training experience. I agree with the reviewer that said Don is not going to coddle or baby you or your dog! But the respect he gave Hazel was unparalleled. He didn’t need to coddle her- if love could have fixed her anxieties she’d have been perfect with us! She needed boundaries and clear expectations and Don gave her both. I don’t know that Don and I would ever cross paths in our normal worlds. I’m a Minneapolis city girl and a bleeding heart liberal. But the things I’ve learned since starting this journey with Don have totally changed how I work with my foster dogs and my dog. I’m now setting up all my foster dogs for successful adoptions and none have needed to come back to the organization- even one that came to us with pretty big behavioral issues. If you need help with your dog or just want a well trained companion I 100% recommend this company!!
