We got in touch with Ricardo at On Point Upland Dogs as soon as we brought home our Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, Hazel. From the very beginning, he took the time to explain the commands and training methods he uses, allowing us to start building a foundation before Hazel even arrived for training. At just 6 months old, Hazel spent about a month with Ricardo. Throughout her stay, he kept us updated with videos, progress reports, and was always available to answer questions. It was clear from the start that he genuinely cares about both the dogs and their development. Hazel had never received any formal training before going to Ricardo. Our primary goal was to develop her into a capable hunting dog, and the results exceeded our expectations. During her training, Hazel was introduced to quail and pigeons, along with gunfire and e-collar conditioning. Before going to Ricardo, Hazel had never pointed a bird. After training, she now confidently points and holds her point, and her bird drive, confidence, and field awareness have improved tremendously. What impressed us most was Ricardo’s ability to build Hazel’s natural hunting instincts while maintaining control and responsiveness in the field. The obedience training was a huge bonus, as Hazel now reliably responds to commands such as “Here,” “Give,” and “Place.” As a family of seven with five children, we also appreciate that she returned home calmer, more attentive, and much better behaved around the house. We did a train-and-board program for our GSP, Monty, focused on bird work and overall obedience, and the results were incredible.
