Premier Dog Training

I started using Premier for my fear anxious, 9year old doggie. I bring him to daycare and plan to start the 3week training soon. So far we are soooo grateful to Premier for the attention and care they give our fur baby. He is doing better and has more confidence when he is home. I wish their hours was early 630 verse 7am, only cause I work & traffic in this area is horrible. Premier is kind and understanding as it related to our pup challenges and they dont force him to adapt. They treat him with compassion. I will post later on the 3wk training. Stay tuned.

It is a great comfort to know that we leave our pups to such a professional and caring staff. It is a nice peace of mind. The one time that one of our dogs had a minor medical issue, their staff promptly caught the problem and had her checked by their vet. They communicated right away and let us know what was going on. Coming back, we were pleasantly surprised at how fair (and inexpensive) the charge was for the additional vet involvement.

[Not a review about quality of training] Unfortunately, this place does not stand behind their work. My 6 yo mini Aussie is very anxious and we sought behavior modification (BM) at Premier. After an amazing consultation, we opted to do a test board prior to the 3wk full BM as a trial run to gauge my dogs comfort. I was disappointed to learn they did not find time to evaluate our pup throughout the entire 1 day + 2 night stay, but was told he did begin to calm toward the end of the stay - amazing! We opted to do another day of daycare (very kindly free of charge) but never received a follow up report. Only when I called to get the info, I was told my dog was so very anxious on this second experience that it would likely require 4 wks of board and train to allow for a week to get comfortable in the facility before beginning the actual obedience training. This, of course, is more expensive on top of an already large investment, so I asked if there was a cutoff period where if there was no improvement, we would perhaps abandon the BM or try another method. Since they only offer board and train, I was assured that abandoning training is unlikely (which I so sorely want to believe), but that if that were the outcome we would only be responsible to pay for the pro-rated amount based on his length of stay. All I can imagine is 1-2 weeks into the board and train where the trainers have not been able to begin training, and I am left with an even more traumatized dog that never actually received any actual training. I just find it really sad that this is all they are able to offer to someone who already feels hopeless but protective of their dog, and I find it very untrustworthy that they don't stand by their training enough to say, in the unlikely case we can't train your dog after a week, you won't owe us anything (especially after an initial consult, weekend stay AND a day of daycare -- i.e. I'm not asking them to make this guarantee for every dog), but instead they ask their customers to take all of the risk. How can I trust them if they don't trust themselves? Sadly, I will have to keep searching for the right fit for my dog.

Our 2-year old Pittie mix was developing some bad social behaviors and his 3-week boot camp with James improved his confidence, gave him excellent new skills, and is helping him live his best life with us. We can now walk him (on-leash or off) without worrying about him causing trouble and we can trust him to be reliable and relaxed when we're out in public, no matter how many other dogs, kids, noises, or distractions are around us (he used to be restless and anxious in public, now he just falls asleep). Boot camp was a financial investment but it's the best money I've ever spent on training ("positive-only" group classes didn't really do it for our dog; he needed firm boundaries and corrections to really get confident). Even better, when we board our mutt with Premier we know he's getting consistent refresher training while we're away. The trick to having this kind of result is that the humans have to be consistent with the training once boot camp ends. We used the e-collar from day one, practiced his skills 2-5 times a day, and gave him lots of encouragement as he explored new spaces. Your dog will come home from boot camp ready to learn and work hard, but it's up to you to maintain that relationship and help your pal take their skills into the real world. We're so happy we took our dog to Premier and we've really enjoyed working with him and going on adventures that we simply couldn't do before his training. 100% recommend if you want to give your dog their best life.
