Will my dog get fat from all the food ?
First, we don’t fat shame humans or dogs, but it’s okay to be worried about your dog’s health and this is a big concern for many people. When clicker training, it is best to use tiny pieces of food and subtract these calories from your dog’s daily food ration. Clicker training is also good exercise and highly stimulating. Dogs work when they clicker train! You may also substitute a training session for one of your dog’s regular mealtimes.

I have tried other trainers before and didn’t get the results I desired – what makes your program and approach different and more effective?
We are often the last stop after clients have been through multiple trainers. Unlike other training approaches that only focus on developing rehearsed behaviors, bribing with treats, or merely managing/bandaid-ing the problem, we have developed a unique approach that fundamentally changes the dog’s state of mind. Once we address the dog’s state of mind, the sky’s the limit for what we can create. By cultivating new habits, teaching the dog to make better choices, training calmness instead of excitability, and employing our unique duration work, we are consistently successful with dogs that others are unable to help. This will be the last dog training you will ever need.

My dog is really aggressive. Do you work with aggressive dogs?
Yes. We work with aggressive dogs. Aggressive dogs will be trained using the same unique and progressive methods used on all dogs but will only be trained at our board and train facility. We have found that aggressive dogs take a little longer to work with. I will determine the length of training during our initial consultation.

Working with her has been one of the most meaningful and emotional experiences I’ve had as a dog owner. When I first started, I was overwhelmed, stressed, and honestly unsure if things were ever going to get better—especially with my reactive dog. I felt like I was failing at times. But from the very beginning, she made me feel understood. Not once did she ever make me feel judged. Instead, she met me with patience, kindness, and reassurance when I needed it most. She has been helping me work through my dog’s reactivity step by step and has given me real, practical tools and activities to continue working on it at home. We are still in the process, but the progress we’ve made already feels like something I never thought we’d reach. She also showed me exactly what to do and how to use the tools properly, because she wasn’t just training my dogs—she was training me too, so I can confidently continue the work with them. She also helped me get my other dog under control and taught us so many important skills like heel, down/stay, and recall. These might sound simple, but for us, they’ve completely changed our day-to-day life. I really appreciated how flexible and thoughtful she was, even splitting sessions between both of my dogs so they could each get what they needed. My Cali girl absolutely adores her, and my Leo boy does too—and that alone says everything to me. We only have two sessions left, and I already feel emotional thinking about it ending. I truly wish I had found her sooner. If we weren’t moving, I would keep working with her without hesitation, especially for my Leo boy. I am so incredibly grateful for her and everything she’s done for us. I will never forget this experience, and I cannot recommend her enough.

She also performs well in place when people visit, unlike before when she would get very excited. We have a bernedoodle puppy (9 months). If you’ve ever been around a bernedoodle puppy then you know how hyper and smart these dogs are, which ultimately gets them into a ton of trouble. If they are left alone for 20 seconds, they become bored and the next thing you notice is chewed up plants, shoes, furniture and people laying all around your house. This was our experience. As life long dog owners we thought, no problem, we got this. We knew quickly though that we didn’t. These dogs are nothing but love and high energy. It’s the only breed that I have seen leave a bowl of food behind to have attention from their owners. They want it so much that they knock people over trying to get it, including children or seniors, which causes a disaster. As a result of all of this, we reached out for help. After several interviews with other trainers in the area we finally settled on working with Alex at Ridgeside K9. They sent a trainer (Jackie) to observe and assess the situation. In that first meeting, Jackie gave us a bunch of advice on how to fix the mess. She also did the training at our home based on our schedules. After 3 or 4 training sessions with Jackie, we are happy to report that our bernedoodle is a perfectly behaved member of the family. The pup is also much happier now as she doesn’t get into any real trouble anymore. As she’s still a puppy and will make small puppy mistakes that will be corrected, she still has the huge puppy heart of love that we all want, just without the craziness. If you want a trainer for your dog, absolutely look no further as these people are without a doubt the best.

Oh my gosh, I just can’t say enough good things about Ridgeside K9 NorCal. I was really thinking that I might have to rehome my rescue dog. She was just out of control and barked at Everything. I tried some private training and it was just not working. My dog stayed with Ridgeside for 4 weeks and I got back a confident and well behaved dog who does not bark at everything or jump up on everyone. She is still my lovey little dog but we are both so much happier
