Do I need puppy training?

It is imperative for puppies to receive proper foundation training. This is particularly important during the critical period which occurs from birth to 16 weeks. During this time puppies should be exposed to as much of the world as possible. Although we understand that they are still very immature and not capable of advanced behaviors it is during this time that puppies can be taught how to learn. Once they understand this process, using a marker based system, they can easily learn throughout their life!

What does our board and train entail?

Training starts immediately upon arrival for a board and train. Dogs will be taught a marker based system of learning. They will be taken out in the community several days a week and during this time they will be required to be neutral to their environment. Throughout training, we will continue to add in distance, duration and distraction to proof all commands and ensure a calm state of mind. We do not believe in one standard training method for all dogs. We will work with owners to build a program to meet the specific needs of their dog and family. We make ourselves available throughout training to answer any questions and alleviate any concerns. We pride ourselves on our transparency and dedication to keeping owners up to date and informed on the progress of training.

Any dog is eligible for a board and train program. We can work with owners to address specific behavioral issues and training desires to tailor the training program for each dog. We had an amazing experience with Shonnah during our dog’s three-week Board and Train program. She taught our dog a solid “place” command with calm settling, a relaxed heel, and off-leash walking just like we requested. She also worked on our dog’s jumping habits, which have significantly improved. Shonnah exposed our dog to many environments like Lowe’s, parks, and other public places, helping her become much more neutral and confident out in the world. We’re so grateful for the progress and would highly recommend Shonnah to anyone looking for a knowledgeable and dedicated trainer. We received daily training videos and photos, which we really appreciated - attached are some of the photos we received during BnT! Shonnah is very responsive and takes the time to explain her training methods in depth, helping you understand the importance and impact of consistent training with your dog.

I couldn’t have been happier with my experience! Like most dog moms I was terrified to send my dog off. Cori text me daily with pictures and videos and updates of how he was doing! She was so kind and good to him and I’m so impressed with how much he has learned!!! Would highly recommend to anyone looking for training!

We used Ridgeside in Summerville and couldn’t be more pleased!! Trainer Cori was able to literally transform my stubborn, headstrong, but adorable mini golden doodle puppy. She is now able to follow a few commands and plays soo much nicer with my senior dog! She can go on walks, she can be taken out around other families and dogs. She is not perfect, but she can now be “reeled in” and is learning and improving every day. Cori sent me pictures and video every day. The final send home lesson was so helpful. Cori and Ridgeside were also very realistic in setting goals and about the importance of working on things at home. Nala is a new puppy!! 10/10 strongly recommend! Ask for Cori she is great with puppies 🐶

I cannot recommend Ridgeside K9 enough!! Shonna, in particular, was absolutely amazing. She took our 7-month-old, 80-pound Charlie and truly changed our lives. Before training, Charlie jumped all over us, had very few manners, struggled on a leash, and couldn’t be left alone inside without constant supervision. In just three weeks, he’s a completely different dog — calm, well-mannered, and responsive — while still being his same happy, goofy self. If you’re looking for dog training that genuinely transforms your home and your daily life, you have to ask for Shonna. We’re beyond grateful!

Best decision we have ever made for our dog and ourselves !! She went to 4 weeks of in home training with Amanda and came home a well trained , consistent and happy girl! Lola is our 4 year old terrier, she had issues with reactivity in many situations, it was impossible to redirect her when she locked on to something. She was TERRIBLE on the leash , pulling the entire time you were walking and would not come to you if she was interested in something. We couldn't go anywhere if there might be another dog because she would get so excited. We want to be able to take her places and enjoy our time so we decided it was time to send her to a trainer. We were so worried it would change her personality. It is now 4 weeks later and she is a dream to walk , her recall is stellar, she runs to us when we call her, then sits until released. She walks right beside us calmly until given the signal to walk freely . She goes to her place when told to do so. Best of all she is still completely herself! We received nightly reports with videos, she clearly, really liked Amanda, had a solid relationship with her and she was always happy with her training. We were given a lesson at the two week mark and when her training was completed. Amanda was patient and thourogh with "our" training. We are truly grateful for what Amanda has done with Lola and know that all of our lives will be greatly improved because of this experience. We feel 100% confident we can take her anywhere now . I will recommend Ridgeside K9 to anyone wanting thorough , professional, humane training for their dog, it was a great decision !
