At Sit Means Sit Metro Detroit, our passion is developing the relationship between dogs and their families, allowing the most freedom and safety for the dog and the most peace of mind for the people. We train for today’s busy lifestyle.
We train dogs for obedience and behavior modification. We’re proud that the majority of our new clients each year come through referrals from our clients and local veterinarians.
Our goal, regardless of the program our clients choose, is to make each client feel welcome and encouraged, and to treat each dog like our own.

Do you offer board and train programs?
At our Rochester Hills facility, we have a beautiful Immersion Inn for our board and train program. It's a clean, intimate setting, holding a maximum of 18 dogs. Our rooms at the Inn frequently book weeks in advance for our board and train programs. We have programs of different lengths, depending on the needs of your dog and family. A trainer will be happy to discuss the options with you during your free consultation.

Yes! We offer a no-cost consultation at our facility located at M59/Crooks in Rochester Hills. It gives you a chance to see our 8,500 square foot facility and to meet with a member of our team who will give you a recommendation about which of our training programs will fit the needs of your family best.

Do you offer a puppy class? If so, what are the age requirements and cost?
We sure do! We offer a four-week, six-week or eight-week session of classes.
We provide a rolling enrollment so you can choose when to start. Puppies between 10 and 22 weeks of age are welcome!
Classes are held on Mondays @ 7:00 pm, Wednesdays @ 2:00 pm & 7:00 pm and Saturdays @ 9:00 am.
The cost for the program ranges between $199.00 - $399.00.

Does this company use electric collars for training?
Yes.. however do your research when looking at all forms of training... When I was a client, they offered demonstrations and explanations so you can evaluate their methods.

If you want a happy and healthy relationship with your dog you WILL come here! They saved my GSD's life. He came to us unsocialized at two years old, and he was terribly fear aggressive - other forms of training made him worse.
Don't believe anyone who says collar training is harmful. PEOPLE are harmful - and those who misuse a collar, will misuse any other form of training too.

I have found that electric collars get a bad reputation because of inappropriate use. Sit Means Sit teaches using the collar as an attention getter like a tap on the shoulder - not as punishment. A lot of praise and positive reinforcement is recommended. The dogs are happy and excited to learn and to please. My experience and observation confirms how humane this collar can be if used correctly.

Initially we were not too keen on a dog training place that used an e-collar but I did sign up for their training as they came highly recommended by many, to give us the results that we were looking for. And at the end of 3 weeks of intense training I can say we made the best decision ever. Each and every trainer was amazing and ensured that we understood (really ensured) how they worked our dog . The training gave us the necessary tools for us to feel confident with our dog in different scenarios.....this was gold. Would highly recommend spending the days off between training (even if it is a few minutes) to go over the commands introduced to your dog and share your challenges/wins with the trainers ,before the next class. The trainers were ever willing to help with any questions and provide solutions. It was a commitment for sure but a very rewarding one ,both for us and our dog.

Clearly Phoebe has no experience with training collars. Our dog went to Sit Means Sit for training and I can't tell you how excited she gets when we get her collar out. Training for her is like play time and she loves it. I have tried the collar on personally and can tell you from first hand experience it does not hurt.

I was skeptical about the E-collar training, but SMS teaches both the dog and the owner to do it in a humane and positive way. I didn’t think they would turn my Beagle (a breed known for its stubbornness and independence) into a better behaved dog that can even go off leash outside in a limited capacity! It’s not cheap, but I definitely made a good investment in my dog and my sanity. Her personality didn’t change a bit, we just now have more positive experiences in the home with less barking and less counter surfacing as well as better walks.

I rescued a young adult dog from an extremely over crowded shelter at the start of COVID. No known history, found on the streets of Phoenix, AZ. Naturally, he came to me fearful of strangers, nervous, anxious and destroyed anything that he could get ahold of. I put him through a different board and train (not SMS) within the first few months of having him. He came back to me and the trainer pretty much told me, “yup he’s so much better now,” handed me a prong collar, and then I was set free… there was no education to the client on how to continue to help train him and continue progressing.
For obvious reasons, we never got anywhere and I was several thousand dollars down. Over the years between then and now, I did my best to work with him, build his confidence, worked with a friend who trains dogs. We have since gotten past any destructive behaviors, but the nervousness and fear of strangers persisted. I had enough of him being so worried in early 2025 and wanted to try again with training to try and ease his fear and build confidence.
I found Sit Means Sit through a simple google search and enrolled my dog in the 2 week board and train program where he stayed at the facility M-F, came home on the weekend to relax with me, and another M-F. The final Friday consisted of a 1 hour lesson on how to continue the training and be successful. With the board and train, 2 full years of group classes and as needed one on one sessions with trainers is included. The partnership between the trainers/staff and the owners is what makes this program worth it.
We are almost 6 months in, going to group class every week to continue his socialization, confidence and continue to get him used to strangers. While we are not there yet, he has made significant progress in just 6 months, when I have had the dog for 5.5 years with this issue. For the first time since adopting him, I have hope that I can create a more calm, at ease life for my fur baby. He LOVES group class, tail is wagging any time we pull into the SMS parking lot. The incidences of him barking at strangers is significantly reduced. I could not be more happy with this program.

Sit Means Sit of Rochester Hills, Michigan is a quality training program. Their no nonsense approach has allowed me to build such a wonderful relationship with my dog Sophie. We have continued going well past our start date because I so value my time each week in our group class. Classes have allowed me to get Sophie off leash and obedient. So many people tell me what a great dog I have!

Earlier this year my dog Stanley did the day train program here, and it was well worth it. I immediately saw an improvement in his behavior. Since then I have been taking him to group class and love it. I learn so much every week. The trainers are very knowledgeable and are always willing to help. I am so thankful for SMS.
