Behavior Specialists are able to read and understand canine behavior beyond public knowledge.
Behavior Specialists can work with either dogs and owners that have already developed some type of negative behavior or owners who want to work with their young dogs to prevent behavior issues from occurring in the future.
All of our programs are structured around communication and leadership first, because no amount of treats or toys can make up for a lack of trust, understanding, or respect.
Due to the complex nature of the canine mind, we don’t advocate any single training method or tool. Each dog must be evaluated individually before the most effective method can be determined.

Why is it so hard to get ahold of anyone I have left Numerous voice mails and have not heard back i have emailed them I don't have any other way inless I drive down there but being i live in grand forks i would like to talk and discuss Before hand
Hi Matthew, it looks like our staff responded to all of your emails within 48 business hours which is our current expected wait time. If you call it could be a longer wait time as we only have one staff member who does phone calls, so we ask you continue to email or if you would like a phone call back to request one via voicemail or email and someone will call you back. We can't recommend smart k9 and trainer Madison enough! We started working with them when our puppy, Tank, was just 6 months old. As first time dog owners, we had no idea where to start, but she taught us how to effectively communicate with him and gave us the confidence to train him consistently.
Tank has a lot of energy (and plenty of sass!), and Madison has been an incredible guide every step of the way. Through one-on-one training sessions and off-leash training. At daycare dog handler Alyssa helped us build a strong foundation of obedience while reinforcing the expectations we set for him every day.
Smart k9 truly cares about both the dogs and their owners. They don’t just train your dog they teach you how to be a better handler. We're so grateful for everything they have done for Tank and our family. We highly recommend smart k9 to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, supportive, and dedicated dog trainers and handlers!

I found Smart K9 desperately needing some help, and holy cow is this the place to go!! I thought I knew the basic stuff about training but I apparently didn’t know that much lol!! Jesse has graduated from her basic obedience program and oh my gosh is she a different dog! Our amazing trainer Julyn helped me see the world how Jesse sees it! Without her help I don’t know where we would be, her confidence has grown so much! Jesse LOVES going to school and seeing her trainer and ALL the handlers! Our relationship has grown as she has gone through that program, some daycare, and now her off leash program which has been so much fun!! She has become such a fun goofy dog I can’t wait for more fun with Smart K9!!

Would absolutely recommend Smart K9 for any age of dog training! We are complimented all the time on how well mannered our puppy is and people are shocked to find out he just turned 1. All of the staff has been lovely to work with, but Maddi, Alyssa, and Emilee have been absolutely amazing!

My puppy Peaches reacted very well to training is now well behaved on her leash! Her impulse control has also improved! The staff were very helpful and encouraging! I’d recommend Smart K9 Training to any dog parent!

I was in the 4 week day training program with my Golden Retriever. My dog had a lot of energy and I was struggling in my training which caused frustration for me and him. Smart K9 not only trained my dog basic obedient commands but more importantly worked my dogs mind and helped him use his energy in a productive manner. I can’t say enough good things about Maddi and Alyssa, they are excellent trainers and were always willing to answer any questions I had. I highly recommend Smart K9. You will not be disappointed and you will improve your relationship with your dog and you will become a better handler and understand what your dog needs. I rate Smart K9 a 10/10.
