Smart K9 Training

We enrolled our dog in day training with Smart K9. We adopted her as a puppy from rescue, and she had issues with biting, jumping, and was very clever and mischievous. We also have a 10 year old daughter that was nervous around her because of these behaviors. Though we've had success with weekly classes with previous dogs, we knew we needed additional support with this dog, and after consultation, Smart K9 recommended the 4 week day training program. The trainers asked lots of questions regarding our lifestyle and goals for training, and tailored her program to best meet our needs, along with the needs of our dog. They even encouraged our daughter to attend our individual sessions so she could work on being less nervous and have a better relationship with our pup. Our dog progressed very well, and since graduating from her initial program, she's also completed off leash program, and is in daycare twice a week to maintain consistency in her training, plus she loves it there! When we got her, she was quite reactive and nervous around people, dogs, and really anything new. Within a couple months, she can walk into a busy store, and not only behave, but be comfortable. Smart K9 helps us problem solve when new issues arise, as she is still a fun, energetic, and occasionally mischievous pup. The trainers check in often regarding how our dog is doing with our daughter, and with the guidance we've received, our daughter is now completely comfortable with our dog. We feel confident that we have the skills and tools to continue to work with our pup to grow into a well mannered, happy, adult dog. (Written by wife Janene) Rocket is an energetic excitable Labrador. When walking down the sidewalk, I just did not know when she was going to run full force at something that interested her. It was becoming a safety concern, and my methods were not working. She was in a Smart K-9 four-week board and train program. Maddie was patient with her and with me, plus she was really interested and liked Rocket. The training has had a very positive impact on our life with Rocket, she is more calmed down, more focused when walking beside me. We are practicing every day and I am confident that the things she learned at her stay at Smart K-9 and what we have learned and keep reinforcing are changing her. It meant a lot to me as a dog lover that Rocket was recognized for her own true nature – and like by the staff. For me, the staff was very friendly and welcoming. I would recommend this program to others that are dog owners and lovers to elevate your relationship and training with your hound. We all just want to have the best dog in our neighborhood. Smart K-9 moves you in that direction.

Where do I even begin?! Working with Emilee has completely changed the relationship I have with my dog. My dog has struggled with reactivity towards people and other dogs for years, and I became so stuck and hopeless I didn't know what to do anymore. I worked with other dog trainers who just made his reactivity worse and damaged our relationship. Then, I found Emilee. I was given the opportunity to go through her 90 day mentorship program and it changed my life. Before going through the program, I was terrified to take my dog anywhere, even on walks, because we could run into other dogs and I didn't want him to have a bad reaction which could result in someone getting hurt. I couldn't even take him to the vet because he was terrified of everyone. During the program I learned so much about my dog's behavior, my role in his behavior, and how to strengthen our relationship so that we can understand each other. Now, we have come so far that I literally get excited when we're outside and I see another dog because it's an opportunity for us to practice what we've learned. I understand my dog's behavior and in turn, he understands what is expected of him and how to make good choices. Under Emilee's guidance, I have learned how to be patient with myself and stay consistent so I can be the leader my dog needs. My dog's reactivity has improved beyond what I imagined, to the point I've been able to take him to parks where there are adults, children, and dogs around us, and we both can enjoy ourselves. I’ve had such a great experience with Smart K9! The entire staff has been friendly, supportive, and clearly passionate about what they do. I loved viewing the daily photos and videos of my dog—seeing how they work with each dog really shows their deep understanding of dog behavior. Madison was amazing to work with. She’s patient, genuine, and always took the time to answer my questions. Her detailed notes after each session made it so easy to keep up with training at home. My dog trusted her right away and was excited for day training every morning. Over the program, she learned proper leash manners and became noticeably calmer and more confident.
