Question on Google
What is the difference between obedience training and trust-based training?

Obedience training focuses on making the dog comply with commands, often without addressing the root cause of behavioral issues. Trust-based dog training, on the other hand, looks at why a dog is acting a certain way and teaches them through communication, leadership, and relationship-building. This leads to lasting behavioral change instead of just quick fixes.

I highly recommend Strong Bond dog training to anyone that wants to not only train their dog, but gain a better relationship with them in the process! While I’ve always adored my dog and she was never a “bad” dog, Alex’s training has helped my dog and I to have a stronger, calmer, and more joyful relationship. My dog has been happier in so many little ways since we started this training, which has been delightful for me to see. I chose Strong Bond because they do NOT use aversive methods for training, but instead rely on positive reinforcement, gentle natural consequences, the relationship between you & your dog, and most importantly - making sure your dog’s needs are met! I love how much they respect that dogs have needs and that we as their humans need to make sure their needs are met (not only food and shelter but also play, exploration, and relationships) if we want our dogs to go along with all the things we ask of them! I didn’t want to train the spark out of my dog and make her obedient at all costs, and I’m thankful that this training works with your dog and respects them for who they are; just with some more skills on how to be calm, responsive to their humans, and overall be a more functional little creature in society :). If anything, my dog has gotten to show off her personality even more, just in appropriate ways! She even answers yes/no questions now, which has been such a fun part of training! She listens to me because we’re a team, not because I’ve forced her into being obedient. Working with Strong Bond requires you as the owner to really evaluate your leadership skills, your regulation skills, and your relationship with your dog. This is important work and is what gives you as the owner the ability to continue with training on your own, as you have the tools to better understand your dog. Strong Bond does not train in a way that keeps you reliant on them, the goal is for you & your dog to be a team that can continue to learn and grow together even after your formal training has finished. (Of course you can always book more sessions, but they genuinely want you to succeed on your own!) I wish I’d found Alex when my dog was a puppy, but the training still worked wonderfully at age 5!! Although we’ve only had 6 training sessions, my dog is also obsessed with Alex and interacts with him like he’s one of her best friends, which demonstrates the wonderful relationships he builds with his dog clients as he clearly makes them feel safe & loved. I plan to work with Strong Bond in the future on some more advanced skills. I wouldn’t hesitate to reach out to them for any dog training needs I have in the future, and would recommend them to anyone looking for any type of training!

We went with Strong Bond Dog Training because we have hopes of certifying our dog as a service dog in the near future. Alex and his team were great and had a very different approach to training (and I’ve gone to trainers for 4 different dogs). We really appreciated his perspective and felt him and his team really support you through the process to be successful. We still are leveraging the video library to stay consistent with our dog, and it’s a great resource to have. We get so many compliments at the dog park with our puppy’s recall, and he learned boundaries at a really young age—and with any young pup, when he tests us we just go back to the tools Strong Bond gave us and work hard to get him back on track. He is great off leash and without much prep had a great first camping trip and is doing well with our hikes too. We definitely recommend using Alex and his team.

We have been training Rue with Alex and it's been a great experience. Rue has done so well with Alex's training philosophy. We started training with Alex when Rue was puppy. He helped us to have a pretty easy puppyhood with her and he also provided us the tools to problem-solve behaviors. We are very happy to have found Alex. Definitely recommend!

Alex with Strong Bond Training was amazing! We have had multiple dogs over the years and trained them in different ways. We were looking for a special trainer due to having our first German Shepherd puppy. A friend gave us the referral after having a very positive experience with Strong Bond Training. We trained this pup differently than we had trained any other dog in the past and what a difference! People constantly comment on his good manners and disposition with not only people, but also other dogs.He has been an easy, enjoyable pup thanks to Strong Bond Pet Training! I only wish that we knew about Alex for our other dogs!

Training with Alex and Jess taught me and my dog so much. It was like seeing a dog psychologist every two weeks. Alex and Jess are incredible at listening and offering insights and practical solutions. I was impressed that the training established mutual respect between me and my dog. It wasn't about obedience just for the sake of it. I feel like I have a much better relationship with my dog than when we started the sessions. My dog seems happier with me and life! The training started with the concept that "your dog relies on you for all of their needs." This was a profound shift in how I thought about my daily interactions with him. I realized I must put much more effort to understand what he wants and needs. The training gave me solid tools to do that for him. Alex said I can have lifetime access to the videos, too, so I can continue to refresh the training even though the in person sessions have ended.
