I came to Szegi Haus in desperation to learn how to handle a reactive and dominate 1.5 year old puppy. Alex and Jenny have provided me with life long tools that completely shaped and altered my relationship with my dog. We went from having severe separation anxiety and reactivity to a dog that wanted nothing more than strong expectations and leadership. He has shown his ability to be the dog I always knew he could be and I honestly could not be more grateful! Szegi haus takes the time to be active listeners and understand the issues at hand with an active and engaged approach. Within 6 weeks/12 lessons I never knew we could see the improvement I have! I would and am recommending to everyone around me! There are no bad dogs, just ones that need a bit more guidance! I can’t wait to take the second round of training with them!

Alex and Genny did an excellent job helping me learn how to manage my “little” GSD puppy, Fenrir. Classes are affordable, unlike many other higher level trainers and. they were willing to work with me to work on what Fenrir needed more than just doing a cookie cutter class. For his first puppy class, that was mostly the same - all dogs need basic manners and fundamentals when they’re young. For the second class we did a bit of what was planned and a bit of things I needed help with in for his SDIT training. They are always willing to answer questions and good at helping you recognize the “why”‘s of training (why isn’t he focused, why does one thing work or one thing not work). I would say on top of that, Fenrir is a moderately hard dog to work with - very intelligent but also very high drive, always wants to be doing something (and it may not be the same something you want him doing), and a dominant personality where he often will challenge you to see if he “really has to” do what you’re asking or not. I’m not sure that all trainers out there would be able to handle a dog like him properly and it could be wasted money at other places. Genny especially helped me realize that quite often Fenrir knew very quickly what I wanted and was getting away with small acts of defiance on occasion. I was very happy to find something within my financial limits that was worthwhile training. I have a lot of experience with animals and was not completely new to training, so I wasn’t sure how much he would get out of doing structured puppy classes, but it was very beneficial for him. Just because of the schedule and time of year when I got him, Genny also kindly extended into the winter months so we could finish his 2nd puppy class without having to wait another 4 months or so until it warmed up and could do it while he was still in early development. (Many trainers would not want to be outside in the below freezing weather just for one client I’m sure. I really appreciate it) Fenrir passed his AKC CGC and UKC SPOT tests a couple weeks ago at 12 months old, and is doing well with his training to become a service dog.

Absolutely transformative for me and my dog. Best decision I’ve made training with Jenny and Alex. They are incredibly kind and caring, yet disciplined and educational. They taught me so much and provided me and my dog a safe space to learn and grow. They truly care about your dog - above and beyond, they’re trustworthy and know what they’re talking about. I have learned things from them I will carry with me for a lifetime, and am excited to continue learning from them.
