FirstBarkCannot recommend Matt enough. We came to him with a hyper, distracted, mischievous (and adorable!) puppy and we left with a well mannered (still mischievous), redirectable, potty trained dog. Our Milo still has learning to do but we would not be anywhere close to where we are with him if it wasn’t for Matt. His training is straightforward and sets you and your dog up for success. I reached out thinking I might need to hire a trainer, and the owner of The Hill Country Dog Trainer called me personally for a consultation. He spent about 30 minutes talking through my situation, asking thoughtful questions, and offering clear, practical advice I could start using at home right away. What really stood out was his honesty. He was upfront that I wasn’t at the point of needing formal training yet and didn’t try to sell me services I didn’t need. Instead, he focused on educating me, giving me tools and tips, and helping me feel confident moving forward. It’s rare to find someone so knowledgeable, genuine, and ethical. I’m incredibly grateful for the time he took and wouldn’t hesitate to reach out again if I do need training in the future. Highly recommend.

We brought our 10-month-old mini Goldendoodle, Buddy, to Matt for a board and train program. Buddy had received some training previously, but as he got older we were struggling to curb some unwanted behaviors. Matt was extremely knowledgeable and gave us all the tools we needed to help Buddy grow into his best self. Buddy gained so much confidence and truly felt like a whole new dog when we picked him up. We especially appreciated the progress videos Matt sent throughout the training, along with clear explanations of what Buddy was learning and what we should do at home. This made us feel confident and prepared for the transition back. Since bringing Buddy home, he has been a fantastic dog! We’re so grateful for Matt’s guidance and highly recommend his training.

We had worked with our pup, Dax, for many years but wanted some assistance with some reactivity challenges and additional off-leash training. Matt was exactly the right person to help with our beloved pup! We received regular thorough updates, supplemental training videos, and are so thrilled with the results. As a result of his time with Matt, we’ve been able to take Dax into more populated areas, where he no longer seems overly attentive to other animals. Matt has also been providing extra support post-training, quickly responding to texts about training to help make sure we’re all set up for success. Thanks so much, Matt!!
